BCCI planning to ban Rishabh Pant if he doesn't rectify his mistake

It is proving to be a very tough comeback season for Delhi Capitals wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant, who is resuming captaincy for the first time since the 2022 season. While Pant and Co. are anyways suffering from poor form and lack of squad depth, another major problem that is arising at the moment is their tendency to maintain a slow overrate.
For the second time in a row in IPL 2024, the DC skipper has been fined by the league’s authorities for the same reason and if gets repeated one more time in the future, then Pant will be facing a 1-match ban.
The first time Rishabh Pant came under scrutiny was during DC’s first win of the season when they welcomed Chennai Super Kings at the ACA-VDCA stadium in Vishakhapatnam.
Delhi might have earned the victory by 21 runs but their captain was fined INR 12 Lakhs since it was his first offense of the 2024 season under the IPL’s code of conduct. However, instead of learning from their mistakes, the Capitals did the same thing again last night in 1st innings against Kolkata Knight Riders.
As KKR were demolishing the DC bowlers right from the start, the big screen on the stadium flashed that the hosts were a few overs late. At that very moment, everyone knew that another fine could be on the cards for Rishabh Pant, who despite trying his best to help the bowlers from behind the stumps, saw his team concede this season’s 2nd highest total.
The total of 272 by KKR also goes down as IPL’s 3rd highest total after 277 made by Sunrisers Hyderabad earlier this season and 263 made by RCB back in 2013.
Rishabh Pant was fined 24 lakhs while other DC players received sanctions worth 6 Lakhs
For the second consecutive offense on the same issue, Rishabh Pant has been fined 24 Lakhs by the IPL authorities and sanctions are not just limited to him. His teammates including Impact player Abhishek Porel, have been charged with a sum of 6 Lakhs or 25% of their match fees during their clash against Kolkata Knight Riders last night.
If Delhi Capitals gets fine for slow over-rate for one more game 👇

If this happens again, Rishabh Pant will be in huge trouble as he faces the scare of being banned for 1 match. Head coach Ricky Ponting and Director Sourav Ganguly will have to hold a team meeting after last night’s loss, not just to ask the players to improve but also to take care of the over rates. Now that’s an added tension for DC who now find themselves 9th in the points table.
DC face MI up next
It will be a clash between 2 bottom-sided teams on April 7th when Delhi Capitals visits the Wankhede stadium for a clash against Mumbai Indians in their next league match. Both MI and DC will not be playing a match until this Sunday and this particular tie is going to be very interesting. While Delhi will have the chance to register their 2nd victory of the season, Mumbai, if they win with a better net run rate, can go as high as 8th or 9th.
