CSK Playing 11 vs KKR- IPL 2024, Match 22

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in match 22 of IPL 2024 in Chennai on April 8, Monday. The match starts at 7.30 pm IST. 

CSK are heading into this game on the back of two back-to-back losses away from home. They lost to Delhi Capitals in Vizag and Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad. 

Against DC, they failed to chase 191, and against SRH they failed to defend 165. The unavailability of two of their key bowlers  Mustafizur Rahman and Matheesha Pathirana were the key reasons behind the team's loss. 

The other key reason is that CSK have not got runs from their two openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra. The southpaw scored 12 off against SRH while Gaikwad just scored 26. This is putting a lot of pressure on the middle-order to perform in every game.

They are coming up against the high-flying KKR side who have won all three matches and performed cumulatively. They have a good bowling attack and their spinners might pose problems to CSK batters. 

CSK Playing 11 vs KKR- IPL 2024, Match 22

Ruturaj Gaikwad 

Gaikwad will open the batting for CSk and continue to lead the side. He has yet to score a fifty in this season so far and scored 26 against SRH. 

Rachin Ravindra 

Ravindra will open the batting with Gaikwad. After getting a good start to the season, he scored 2 and 12 in his last two innings. He is looking to get back into form like his skipper. 

Ajinkya Rahane

Rahane will slot in at three. He scored 35 off 30 balls against SRH which was a relatively slow innings. He has been striking at over 170 since joining CSK in the IPL. 

Shivam Dube

Dube will slot in at four. He has scored 148 runs in four matches so far, the most for CSK. Against SRH, he scored 45 off 24 balls at a strike rate of 188. 

Daryl Mitchell

Mitchell will slot in at five. He scored 13 off 11 balls. He has scored 93 runs overall in the four matches for CSK with a best of 34 and also took a wicket. 

Ravindra Jadeja

Jadeja will slot in at six. He scored an unbeaten 31 off 23 balls against SRH taking his team past 160 in a losing cause. Against KKR, he has a particularly good record scoring 457 runs and taking 19 wickets.

MS Dhoni (WK)

Dhoni will bat at seven. Against SRH, he walked out to bat in the last over and played just two balls. Against DC he scored 37 off 16 balls. 

Moeen Ali 

Moeen Ali can slot in at eight. That lengthens the CSK batting lineup. He did not bat against SRH but took two wickets with the ball late in the innings. 

Deepak Chahar 

Chahar can slot in at nine. His bowling in the powerplay will be key for CSK against KKR. Against SRH, he went for 32 off his 3.2 overs. He has taken 11 wickets against KKR. 

Tushar Deshpande

Deshpande the pacer will slot in at 10. He has been used very tactically throughout the season so far. He took 21 wickets last season and has picked just two from the first four games this season so far.

Mukesh Choudhary

Choudhary concludes the likely XI for CSK for their match against KKR. CSK can make use of his left-arm angle against the right-handed batters of CSK. He was expensive in the last match going for 27 off just one over.

Impact Sub Maheesh Theekshana / Matheesha Pathirana 

One among Pathirana of Theekshana can be used as the Impact Sub by KKR. Pathirana did not play the last match due to a niggle. THeekshana picked up 1/27 off his four overs. Mustafizur Rahman might miss the match against KKR after missing the SRH game.
