Chennai Super Kings (CSK) takes on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in match 18 of IPL 2024 in Hyderabad on Friday, April 5. This is SRH’s second home game of the season. Heading into this game, they lost to Delhi Capitals in Vizag. Chennai Super Kings failed to chase 192 for victory courtesy of some great death bowling by the DC bowlers. They will now face SRH in an away game.
Against Sunrisers Hyderabad, they have a favorable head-to-head record. Out of the 19 games played between the two sides, CSK have won 14 while SRH just five. The Super Kings have also won four of the last five games including the last encounter in Chennai last year.

Heading into this game, CSK will be missing the services of Mustafizur Rahman who has returned to Bangladesh to process his visa for T20 World Cup participation. There are reports that he might miss CSK’s next match against KKR as well. While the CSK batting lineup looks in form, they would want runs from their skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Ruturaj Gaikwad (C)

Gaikwad will open the batting for CSK. He was handed over the captaincy at the start of the season and has won two games out of three. However, he has not shown form with the bat so far. Against DC, he was out for just one.
Rachin Ravindra

Rachin will open the batting with Gaikwad. The southpaw has replaced Devon Conway at the top. He struggled in the last match scoring two off 12 balls.
Ajinkya Rahane

Rahane will slot in at three. He has been striking at over 170 since he joined CSK in IPL 2023. He scored 45 off 30 balls against DC.
Daryl Mitchell

Mitchell will slot in at four, He scored 34 off 26 balls against DC and shared a 68-run stand with Rahane. In the absence of the Fizz, Mitchell might need to bowl a few overs.
Shivam Dube

Dube the all-rounder will slot in at five. He has been doing the big-hitting in the middle overs and will look to continue his form. He scored 18 off 17 balls against DC.
Moeen Ali

With Mustafizur Rahman missing the next match, CSK would like to be the experienced Moeen Ali. He is yet to play his first game this season.
MS Dhoni (WK)

MSD will slot in at seven, his preferred number. He batted in the last game against DC and scored 37 off 16 balls. Fans loved his knock despite the Super Kings losing the match.
Ravindra Jadeja

Jadeja will slot in at eight. This extends the batting lineup of the Chennai Super Kings. He scored 21 an unbeaten 21 off 7 balls. He has picked up just one wicket in the first three games.
Deepak Chahar

Chahar will lead the pace attack. He went for 42 in the match against Delhi Capitals and remained wicketless. He has taken three wickets in the first three games. He took 13 from 10 last season.
Tushar Deshpande

Tushar will be the second seam option in the XI. He took 21 wickets last season and has picked just two from the first three games this season so far.
RS Hangargekar

Hangargekar might be added to the XI as a replacement for Mustafizur Rahman. He is yet to play a game this season and might be considered for this game. Last year he picked three wickets in two games.
Impact Sub- Matheesha Pathirana

CSK might use Matheesha Pathirana as an Impact player in this match. He picked 31 for 3 in the last match against DC. So far he has picked four wickets from two games.
