Chennai Super Kings pacer Deepak Chahar has made a huge claim about MS Dhoni’s future in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Speculations are rife that the former India skipper will bring down the curtains on his illustrious career after IPL 2024.

While it was widely expected that MS Dhoni would retire from IPL 2023 after leading Chennai Super Kings to a record-equaling fifth title, the veteran wicketkeeper had other ideas. After guiding his team to the title, he announced that he would play at least one more IPL season.

Expressing his gratitude to the CSK fans after the IPL 2023 final, he had said that retiring after the title win would be an easy task and he wanted to return the favor to the fans by playing one more season.

“The easy thing for me is to say thank you and retire. But the amount of love I have received from CSK fans, it would be a gift for them to (see me) play one more season,” MS Dhoni had said.

Deepak Chahar on MS Dhoni’s future:

While many expect MS Dhoni to hang up his boots after IPL 2024, Deepak Chahar has stated that his IPL captain can still play 2 to 3 more seasons. The right-arm pacer said that the legendary captain has still got a lot to offer to the game. He also stated that the CSK skipper has recovered well from the knee injury that troubled him throughout IPL 2023 and is good enough to play a few more seasons.

“I think he has a lot to give to cricket. He can play for another 2-3 seasons. I have seen him bat in the nets. Obviously, he had an injury that anyone can have, people at 24 have that same injury that he has,” Deepak Chahar told PTI news agency.

“He has recovered well. For me personally, he should play for another 2-3 years. But it’s his call. He told everyone he was going to play his last game in Chennai. I think he will only decide. For us, it will be very difficult to play for CSK without him. Everyone has (always) seen CSK with Mahi bhai,” he added.

Both CSK and MS Dhoni will have the opportunity to create history this year. CSK and MS Dhoni can become the first team and captain respectively to win the title six times. With the final also set to be played in Chennai, MS Dhoni and CSK could have a fairytale ending to the IPL 2024 season.

Meanwhile, the BCCI is yet to announce the full schedule of IPL 2024. According to reports, the seventeenth edition of the competition is likely to be played from March 22 to May 26.
