Delhi Capitals (DC) Director of Cricket Sourav Ganguly provided an injury update about Mitchell Marsh ahead of the game against Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. He revealed that the all-rounder will be missing the game against five-match champions due to injury.
Delhi Capitals all-rounder Mitchell Marsh suffered an injury ahead of the game against Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2024 and hence has been deemed unfit. The game between the two teams will be taking place on Sunday (7th April) in the afternoon at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
This comes as a huge blow for Delhi Capitals, who already are struggling to get going in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The Rishabh Pant-led side are reeling at the bottom of the table as they have managed just one win from the 4 games so far in the tournament, suffering losses against PBKS, RR, and KKR.
Mitchell Marsh so far has failed to make a mark in the league with the bat and ball. But with the kind of quality that he brings, it will leave a massive void in the Delhi Capitals lineup for the game against Mumbai Indians, who too are struggling to get going and are last on the points table.
Sourav Ganguly while attending the press conference ahead of the game against Mumbai Indians confirmed that Mitchell Marsh will be missing the game. The former Indian cricketer, however, didn't confirm the nature of the injury and for how long the all-rounder will be out of action.
Mitchell Marsh so far has scored just 61 runs in the four games. He registered a score of 20 in the game against Punjab and followed it up with 23, 18, and a two-ball duck in the next three games respectively. With the ball, he only has picked one wicket in the four games that he has featured for Delhi Capitals.
With Mitchell Marsh all set to miss the game against Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals might hand a debut for Jake Fraser-McGurk. The young Australia batter was roped in the team as a replacement for Lungi Ngidi, who ahead of the league was ruled out of the tournament. The batter has been exceptional in the Australian domestic circuit and would be keen to perform in IPL as well.
Apart from Mitchell Marsh, Sourav Ganguly provides injury update on Kuldeep Yadav
Delhi Capitals have been playing the last two games without the services of Kuldeep Yadav. The leg-spinner experienced niggle in his groin and was deemed unfit to play. As a precautionary measure, the franchise then rested him, considering the long tournament along with the T20 World Cup 2024 to follow.
When asked if Kuldeep Yadav will be available for the game against Mumbai Indians, Sourav Ganguly stated: "He will undergo a fitness test for groin stiffness during training and by evening we'll know about his availability."
Kuldeep Yadav kickstarted the season on high for Delhi Capitals. The leg-spinner played the first two games for the team against Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals. He bowled terrifically well and picked three wickets for his team but missed the game against Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders.
Sourav Ganguly never dead-bats a question once he sits down for a chat. Same was the case during Delhi Capitals' pre-match interaction against Mumbai Indians
