Delhi Capitals alongside RCB and Punjab Kings have been the three most underperforming sides in the IPL. They finished as low as ninth in IPL 2023 winning five and losing nine games.

DC are still aiming for their unfulfilled dream of winning an IPL title. This year at the auction, they bagged nine players. Harry Brook (Rs. 4 crores), Tristan Stubbs (Rs. 50 lahks), Ricky Bhui (Rs. 20 lakhs), Kumar Kushagra (Rs. 7.20 crores), Rasikh Dar (Rs. 20 lakhs), Jhye Richardson (Rs. 5 crores), Sumit Kumar (Rs. 1 crores), Shai Hope (Rs. 75 lakhs), Swastik Chhikara (Rs. 20 lakhs) are the players that they bought at the auction.

Already, Brook has pulled out of the season due to personal; reasons. In a social media post, he explained the reason behind pulling out which was the death of his grandmother.

Mohammad Kaif Slams Delhi Capitals

Meanwhile, Mohammad Kaif former assistant coach of Delhi Capitals in 2019 and 2020 spoke about how the management has been guilty of mismanaging their players over the years and not identifying the true potential in them. DC reached the playoffs thrice in a row between 2019 and 2021. They played the final in 2020.

“When I was there, we went to the final in one season and finished top three in the other two seasons. I think the players are not getting backed properly. They are not able to identify players and back them. You can ask the same question of RCB,” Kaif said in an interview with Lallantop.

Delhi will be led by Rishabh Pant in IPL 2024 who will be back after missing a complete year of cricketing action in 2023. The IPL will be his first major cricketing involvement since his unfortunate car crash in December 2022. Ricking Ponting and Rishabh Pant have already joined the camp with the first practice session underway.

“It’s just the start. We don’t expect to be practising at our absolute best right now. We’re not even so much looking forward to the first game yet. We’re getting some volume work done,” Ricky Ponting, spoke about the workload at the training session.

“It’s not a different approach, it’s the same, but I’m going to be more intense with the way that I go about it this year. Every time I come here, I talk about wanting to win the IPL and nothing changes there. I’m just going to talk about that a lot more this year” he further spoke about the approach of the team this season.

We Are Talking About Winning The IPL: Ricky Ponting

Speaking exclusively to PTI, Ricky Ponting said that he has his eyes set on winning the elusive IPL title with Delhi Capitals. The Capitals played three good years of cricket between 2019 to 2021 and reached the finals. They narrowly missed out on 2022 finishing fourth on the table while they finished ninth in 2023.

“I want the guys to be fully engaged and that’s the reason we’re all here. It’s my job to bring success to this team. We’re not talking about just winning enough games to qualify. We’re talking about winning the IPL. “Everything we do, every training session we have, every meeting we have, every recovery session we have, every chat that I have with the players is going to be about making them better to give ourselves the best chance of winning,” Ponting concluded saying.
