Mo Bobat, Director of Cricket at Royal Challengers Bengaluru, delivered a promising update on Glenn Maxwell's fitness.
There were doubts over the Australian's participation in RCB's upcoming game against Sunrisers Hyderabad due to a thumb injury. The RCB all-rounder had copped a blow on his thumb while fielding in the game against Mumbai Indians earlier this week. However, Bobat has stated that Glenn Maxwell has recovered well and is available for the crucial game against SRH on Monday (April 15).
"Maxi has had a couple of scans, and he's okay at the minute. So, there's no injury concerns. He's going to practice today and get more of a feel," said Bobat while interacting with the media ahead of the game.
Bobat also spoke about Glenn Maxwell's terrible form in the ongoing IPL 2024. One of RCB's key players, the Australia allrounder has failed to live up to the expectations so far. In six games so far, he has been dismissed for single-digit scores five times.
His scores in the ongoing competition read - 0, 3, 28, 0, 1 and 0. His performance in the middle-order is one of the reasons behind RCB's struggle this season. Speaking about Glenn Maxwell's display in IPL 2024, Bobat said that the player is disappointed while also insisting that he is still a key part of the team management's plans.
"He's disappointed. He obviously has high standards and has a very, very impressive 12 to 24 months. He's in our plans, and is an important part of our batting lineup. So, up until now, we're trying to support him as best as we can and help him find his best form," he said.
"It's good to see Rajat (Patidar) come back to some form in the last game (against MI). We're really trying to target that middle phase of the game where we feel like we could probably score at a better rate or put more pressure on the opposition. So, we're trying to work with him (Maxwell) to do that," he added.
RCB eye much-needed win:
RCB have struggled to do well in IPL 2024 so far. In six games, they have managed to win just one and are currently languishing at the bottom of the points table. They need a remarkable turnaround to revive their playoffs hopes.
They will be facing SRH next and will be hoping to win the game to get back to winning ways. Another defeat could very well end their slim chances of progressing to the next stage.
