Gujarat Titans (GT) and Mumbai Indians (MI) were up against each other in the 5th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The match took place at the Narendra Modi International Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday (24th March).

Mumbai Indians couldn’t break the jinx of not winning their first game of the Indian Premier League. They couldn’t handle the pressure well in the end as Gujarat Titans defeated them by 6 runs to bag two important points.

GT vs MI, IPL 2024 Match 5- Gujarat Titans innings: Sai Sudharsan’s crucial 45 takes Gujarat to 168 runs

Gujarat Titans were asked to bat first and they had a flying start to their innings. Wriddhiman Saha (19) and Shubman Gill (31) batted pretty well at the top. They added 31 runs for the opening partnership and put Mumbai Indians bowlers under pressure.

After both the openers got out, Sai Sudharsan was the one who took the responsibility. The left-hander played a decent role for his team and made sure he took them to a decent total on the board. He didn’t get the desired support from the other end.

Sai Sudharsan scored 45 runs whereas Azmatullah Omarzai (17) and David Miller (12) played decent hands. But the real blitz came from the bat of Rahul Tewatia, who came out all guns blazing and made sure that Gujarat Titans ended with a fighting total on the board.

Rahul Tewatia scored 22 runs off 15 balls and made sure his side went past 150 runs on the board. Based on the collective efforts, the Shubman Gill-led side ended with a total of 168 runs on the board, which seemed difficult after they lost a few early wickets in the game.

GT vs MI, IPL 2024 Match 5- Mumbai Indians innings: Rohit and Brevis’ crucial 40s go in vain as GT wins by 6 runs

Mumbai Indians had a torrid start to their innings as they lost Ishan Kishan for a duck in the first over. But Naman Dhir made sure that they made up for the early loss. The youngster slammed 20 runs in just 10 balls before he was trapped in lbw by Azmatullah Omarzai.

After that, Rohit Sharma (43) and Dewald Brevis (46) batted magnificently well and put the Ujarat Titans under a lot of pressure. The duo put on an exhibition of high-class batting at the Narendra Modi International Stadium in Ahmedabad and added 77 runs for the third wicket.

Both Rohit Sharma and Dewald Brevis lost their wickets at crucial junctures and all of a sudden Mumbai Indians came end pressure. Tim David (11) and Tilak Varma (25) hit some blows but couldn’t take their team home as Mumbai was left tottering at 150/7.

With 19 runs needed in the last over, Hardik Pandya hit 10 runs off the first two balls. But Umesh Yadav made a solid comeback and defended the target to win the game by 4 runs.
