The legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has expressed his anger towards Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Hardik Pandya for his ordinary performance both as skipper and bowler in the 29th game of the ongoing IPL 2024 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Earlier in the MI vs CSK match, Pandya snared three wickets, but in the final over of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) innings, MS Dhoni hammered him for a hat-trick of sixes. The Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper conceded 20 runs in the last 4 balls, as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) posted 206/4 on the board.

Hardik was not looking impressive at all with the ball against Chennai, as he finished with bowling figures of 2/43 from three overs, including a 24-run final over, and Gavaskar was angry with the Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper for his “ordinary bowling and ordinary captaincy” against CSK.

Probably the worst kind of bowling that I've seen for a long time: Sunil Gavaskar slams Hardik Pandya

Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports: “Probably the worst kind of bowling that I've seen for a long, long time. It almost looks like I've had this embrace with my hero. I've got the kind of deliveries that he's gonna hit for sixes. One-six is fine. The next one is a length ball when you know this batter is hunting for a length ball that he wants to hit.”

Gavaskar added, “Third ball is again a full toss on the legs when you know he [Dhoni] is looking for a six. Oh, absolutely ordinary bowling, ordinary captaincy. They should have been restricted despite the fact that Ruturaj Gaikwad had batted so well along with Shivam Dube. I do believe that they should have been restricted to 185-190.”

Speaking about the match, chasing 207 runs for victory, the Mumbai Indians (MI) got off to a fantastic start with Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan hammering the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bowlers all around the Wankhede Stadium in the 29th game of the ongoing IPL 2024 on Sunday, April 14.

Matheesha Pathirana was the difference between MI and CSK

However, Matheesha Pathirana turned the tables, as his four wickets brought the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) back into the game against the hosts. Rohit Sharma (105*) didn’t get enough support from the other hand, and Mumbai suffered a 20-run defeat against Chennai at the Wankhede Stadium.

Despite Rohit’s stunning century, the Mumbai Indians (MI) slumped to their fourth loss in the ongoing IPL 2024. With this defeat, Mumbai slipped to the 8th spot on the points table, and now their chances of qualifying for the IPL 2024 Playoffs look quite weak.

It was MI’s second defeat on home ground, and now they will play their next three games away in the ongoing IPL 2024, so things will not be easy for them to make a comeback in the tournament.

Earlier, CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shivam Dube slammed half-centuries to take the team’s total to 206/4 against the MI. With this thrilling victory, CSK remains in the third spot in the IPL 2024 points table with 8 points from 6 games so far.
