The IPL 2024 retentions came to an end on November 26, Sunday. The franchises were given a deadline till 4 pm to retain the number of players they wanted to ahead of the IPL 2024 auction.
Some big names have been released by different franchises allowing them to get back some cashback ahead of the next auction on December 19 2023.
A few franchises now have a purse of over 30 crores helping them to restrategise their plans for the upcoming auction. Names like Ben Stokes and Joe Root have opted out of the IPL 2023 due to personal reasons.
Other names like Harry Brook, Shardul Thakue, Lockie Ferguson, Tim Southee, and various others from the other franchises have left their previous franchises. The headline news was Hardik Pandya coming back to Mumbai Indians for an all-cash deal after spending two seasons with Gujarat Titans and winning the title in the 2023 season, but it didn’t happen.
For Delhi Capitals, Rishabh Pant will still lead the side with David Warner and Mitchell Marsh the two big batters, and Lungi Ngidi and Anrich Nortje the overseas pacers retained. For KKR, the injection of Gautam Gambhir has been an influential decision. Their trusted allies Sunil Narine and Andre Russell both were retained for one more season.
Chennai Super Kings lookslike a settled unit once again after the retention with the core of the side retained. MS Dhoni will lead the franchise for one final season with Deepak Chahar, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ajinkya Rahane forming the core of this side. Ambati Rayudu is now retired. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians have released Jofra Archer while surprisingly Hardik Pandya has been retained by the Titans after reports of his release earlier.
For Punjab Kings, the management has decided to release Shahrukh Khan, the big-hitter. There was a lot of talk over the franchise possibly releasing Sam Curran, the record signing from last season that did not happen. LSG will be continued to be led by KL Rahul with pacer Avesh Khan and Devdutt Padikkal switching sides. Padikkal will play for Lucknow while Khan will play his trade for Rajasthan. Quinton de Kock, Nicholas Pooran, and Marcus Stoinis form the overseas core alongside Mark Wood.
