IPL 2024 hit by massive controversy, match fixing bookies present in Rajasthan Royals' matches!!

To prevent any corrupt activities from taking place in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024). the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been very vigilant. The ACU officials have been keeping a sharp eye on untoward elements during the tournament.

According to reports, the ACU has managed to evict suspected bookies from two venues so far in IPL 2024. On both occasions, Rajasthan Royals were involved as the ACU officials caught the suspected bookies in Mumbai and Jaipur. 

The first instance took place on March 28 when Rajasthan Royals locked horns against Delhi Capitals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The second one took place on April 1 when Rajasthan Royals played against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

In Jaipur, the ACU officials caught two individuals and handed them to the local box. In Mumbai too, the officials handed over the individuals to the police. While an FIR was lodged against both individuals in Jaipur, the case in Mumbai ended up being a possible case of mistaken identity.

According to a report in The Hindu, the Marine Drive Police officials did not find anything untoward on the individuals' electronic devices.

How do the bookies operate:

The bookies attend the games in the stadium to exploit the eight-to-fifteen-second lapse between real-time action and live telecast or streaming. The small period can make a huge difference. Unsurprisingly, the ACU has been very attentive in keeping a close watch on any suspected individual in the IPL.

In the past, the IPL has been linked with several match-fixing allegations and the BCCI is doing all it can to stay clear of any controversy. The news outlet further quoted a BCCI official as saying that the ACU, with the support of the BCCI machinery, is “doing its best to keep corrupt elements away from the IPL”.

Talking about IPL 2024, it has almost reached the midway stage. At present, Rajasthan Royals are at the top of the points table with 6 wins from seven games followed by Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the top four.
