IPL Points Table 2024: Orange Cap, Purple Cap List After RR vs DC, Match 9

IPL Points Table 2024: Rajasthan Royals, on Thursday (March 28), beat Delhi Capitals by 12 runs in the ninth game of the ongoing IPL 2024 to register their second win. Chasing 186 for their first win of the tournament, DC finished their innings on 173 for 5.

DC’s chase started on a good note as Mitchell Marsh came out all guns blazing. The Australia allrounder raced away to 23 off just 11 balls before being dismissed by Nandre Burger in the fourth over. In the same over, Burger dismissed Ricky Bhui for a duck to reduce DC to 30 for 2.

David Warner and Rishabh Pant steadied the ship with a 67-run stand. Avesh Khan broke the stand by dismissing Warner for 49. 8 runs later, Yuzvendra Chahal sent back Rishabh Pant for 28 to reduce DC to 105 for 4. Abhishek Porel could not do much and departed for 9 to leave his team reeling at 122 for 5 in the 16th over. Tristan Stubbs scored 44 off 23 towards the end but his efforts were not enough for DC to win their first game of the season.

Earlier in the game, Riyan Parag’s highest IPL score helped RR recover from a disastrous start and post a competitive total of 185 for 5 in the allotted 20 overs.

Asked to bat first, the Royals were staring down the barrel after being reduced to 36 for 3 in the eighth over. Both of their openers as well as the captain failed to reach the 20-run mark. Mukesh Kumar gave DC the first breakthrough by dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal for just 5 in the second over.

In the sixth over, Khaleel Ahmed sent back captain Sanju Samson for 15 before Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Jos Buttler for 11 to put DC on top. Riyan Parag and Ravichandran Ashwin then steadied the ship with a 54-run stand. Axar Patel broke the stand when he dismissed Ashwin for 29.

It was followed by another fifty-plus stand as Parag and Jurel added 52 runs for the fifth wicket. While Jurel departed for 20, Parag stayed till the end to take his team to a 180-plus total. He scored an unbeaten 84 off 45 balls with the help of seven fours and six sixes.

RR are currently at the second spot in the points table with two wins in as many games. DC, on the other hand, are in the eighth position with two losses. Reigning champions Chennai Super Kings are currently at the top of the IPL points table 2024.
