Young Mumbai Indians (MI) wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan heaped praise on Rohit Sharma for his support during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season.

Ishan Kishan also expressed his confidence in executing his shots effectively during high-pressure run chases.

Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan have shown excellent form with the bat in the ongoing tournament. Both players are the leading run-scorers for the Mumbai-based team.

Kishan leads the batting charts closely followed by Rohit after the team's five matches in the IPL 2024.

The southpaw has scored 161 runs at an average of 32.20 and a strike rate of 182.95. Kishan's best performance came during the recent match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The former skipper has amassed 156 runs at an average of 31.20 and a strike rate of 167.74.

Always Need Some Senior Player To Be There - Ishan Kishan

In a video shared by the Mumbai Indians on X (formerly known as Twitter), Ishan Kishan emphasized the importance of having a senior player like Rohit Sharma in high-pressure chases to boost team morale.

"When you're chasing big totals, you always need some senior player to be there who can give confidence to the other batsmen also. I think my favorite shot was when I stepped a little backward and just went over the point. Going well about the total, and I had confidence in myself," Kishan said.

Mumbai won the toss and chose to bowl first against RCB, who set a target of 197 runs. Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma formed a solid opening partnership. Ishan scored 69 runs at a remarkable strike rate of 202.9, while Rohit contributed a quick 38 runs off 24 deliveries to the chase.

The opening batter began his innings with a cautious 1 run off 7 balls before he shifted gears. Kishan then scored an explosive 69 runs off 34 balls before being dismissed by Akash Deep. However, Mumbai remained in a favorable position to win the match at the home ground.

Suryakumar Yadav scored 52 runs off just 19 balls, guiding the Mumbai Indians to a comfortable victory. The team won by seven wickets with 27 balls to spare. Skipper Hardik Pandya sealed the victory with a six off RCB pacer Akash Deep, solidifying Mumbai's dominance in the game.

Have Self-Belied And Take The Game Forward - Ishan Kishan

Reflecting on his innings, Ishan Kishan highlighted how his break from cricket helped him develop a more patient and confident approach to his game. He emphasized the importance of self-belief and adaptability in the T20 format, acknowledging his growth in mindset.

"Agar pehle ka Ishan Kishan hota to first over mein acchi bowling ho rahi hai to bhi vo leave nahi karta (The Ishan of old may not have left the deliveries upfront even if the bowlers were doing well). But I have learned the 20-over game is long enough to take your time, have self-belief and take the game forward," said Ishan.

Following consecutive victories, the Mumbai Indians will take on their arch-rivals, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, April 14.
