Jos Buttler makes history with sensational century against KKR, as RR star shatters multiple records

England’s Jos Buttler shattered several massive records with his match-winning century during the 31st game of the ongoing IPL 2024 between the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Eden Gardens on Tuesday, April 16.

Buttler is on fire in the ongoing IPL 2024, as the England skipper has already smoked 250 runs in six games with the help of two centuries at an impressive average of 62.50 and a strike rate of 147.93.

He proved dangerous for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) during the Rajasthan Royals (RR) successful run chase of 224.

Buttler played a remarkable knock of unbeaten 107 runs off just 60 balls, laced with nine fours and six sixes, to help the Rajasthan Royals (RR) crush the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by two wickets in Kolkata. The 33-year-old right-hander created several massive records en route to his blazing knock against the KKR.

Jos Buttler became the first overseas batter to score seven centuries in the IPL, overtaking West Indies legend Chris Gayle, who scored six IPL centuries.

Now, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) star has the second-most number of centuries to his name in the world’s biggest league, and he is only behind Virat Kohli (8).

Meanwhile, Buttler also made a big record in the IPL by hammering his third century while chasing, surpassing Virat Kohli and Ben Stokes in the list of most centuries while chasing in the tournament. Both Kohli and Stokes scored hundreds during IPL run chases.

Apart from these feats, Buttler became the first England player to score eight centuries in T20 cricket, surpassing Luke Wright (7), who previously held the record for most T20 tons as an Englishman.

Additionally, Buttler is the fourth batter to have more T20 centuries in the world after Chris Gayle (22), Pakistan skipper Babar Azam (11) and former Indian skipper Kohli (9).

Speaking about the KKR vs RR IPL 2024 match, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) faced a daunting task when they lost Shimron Hetmyer for a duck, leaving them struggling at 121/6 in pursuit of a challenging target of 224 against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens.

However, Rovman Powell (26) and Buttler revived the RR’s innings with a crucial 57-run partnership. But Rajasthan yet again found themselves in danger, as they needed 46 runs in the last 18 balls to win the game, and at that time, Buttler showed his true firepower in Kolkata.

Buttler held his nerve and brutally attacked the KKR bowlers, scoring 18 runs in the 18th over and 19 runs in the penultimate over before hitting 9 runs in the final over to guide the Royals to a remarkable 2-wicket in the thriller in Kolkata on Tuesday.

With this memorable win, Rajasthan Royals (RR) strengthened their position at the top of the IPL 2024 points table with 12 points from 7 games so far in the tournament. Rajasthan Royals (RR) will next face the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the ongoing IPL 2024 in Jaipur on April 22.
