The KKR vs SRH IPL 2024 match will be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on March 23 Saturday. It is the second game of the double-header Saturday and the third match of the campaign overall. The match starts at 08:00 pm IST.

Both teams finished in the second half of the table last season. While KKR finished seventh Sunrisers Hyderabad finished last. Shreyas Iyer is back to lead the Kolkata Knight Riders after missing last season while SRH has a new captain in Pat Cummins who had a great time as captain in 2023.

Cummins first retained the Ashes and then won the WTC final and the World Cup final against India to cap off a memorable year. Interestingly he is up against his former IPL franchise for home he played in IPL 2021 and 2022 and previously in IPL 2014 as well.

Shreyas Iyer, on the other hand, missed the last season due to a shoulder injury. It was more like he skipped the season to be able to play the World Cup where he scored over 500 runs for India and played a big part in their unbeaten run to the final.

The KKR skipper was recently axed from the BCCI central contract list. To add to that his lower-back problems further resurfaced. He played the first two Test matches against England and then was out of the Indian team.

Before joining KKR, he played in the Ranji Trophy final where he got runs but did not take the field in the last two days. He was declared fit when he joined the side after he consulted a spine specialist in Mumbai. However, he has been advised not to stretch his leg too forward while defending the ball.

This IPL season is very important for the two respective captains. For one it is about retaining his place back in the team with his performances and for the other it is about maintaining the standards of captaincy that he has set for himself.

In other big news, Gautam Gambhir is back as the mentor of KKR. The Knight Riders had their glory years under him and he is back again to help his side win their third IPL title. For SRH, the constant change of coaches and support staff has not brought too much success to the team. The challenge for them will be to pick their best overseas four players from a galaxy of superstars.
