Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) head coach Justin Langer commended young spinner Manimaran Siddharth for his dismissal of star batter Virat Kohli. Justin Langer disclosed that he had issued a specific challenge to Siddharth to take Virat Kohli’s wicket before the match.

Lucknow Super Giants defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 28 runs in the 15th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The team led by KL Rahul secured their second victory of the ongoing season, moving to fourth place in the 10-team points table.

M. Siddharth gained attention on social media after claiming his maiden IPL wicket by dismissing Virat Kohli in his second match in the prestigious tournament. The left-arm spinner remained wicketless in his debut match against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Lucknow.

Siddharth deceived Kohli with a well-executed slower delivery, inducing a leading edge that found its way to the point fielder. Kohli’s departure came after a promising start in the run chase, amassing 22 runs off 16 balls with the help of a six and two boundaries.

Manimaran Siddharth Gets Virat Kohli Out – Justin Langer

In a video posted by LSG, Justin Langer recounted his discussion with Manimaran Siddharth regarding the dismissal of Virat Kohli. Langer expressed his satisfaction as Siddharth successfully fulfilled his promise by getting Kohli out during the match.

“Had never spoken to him before… I saw bowl an arm ball. The first thing to come out of my mouth after meeting M Siddharth was ‘Hey Sid! you reckon you can get Virat out for us?’ He goes, ‘Yes sir!’. And what did he do? He gets him out,” Langer said even as loud cheers went up in the LSG change room.

Siddharth, initially aspiring to become a fast bowler, switched to left-arm spin due to his lack of pace. However, his proficiency in swinging the ball persisted, complemented by fast deliveries with impressive air movement.

Had Always Dreamt Of Taking Virat Kohli’s Wicket – Manimaran Siddharth

Manimaran Siddharth expressed his delight at dismissing Kohli, calling it a dream come true. He emphasized simplicity in his approach, relying on his strengths and accurate lengths to contribute to the team’s success.

“I had always dreamt of taking his wicket. You can ask anyone… It’s the biggest wicket you can take. I’m really happy. I just wanted to keep it simple. I backed my strengths and I knew if I could hit the correct lengths, I could do well for the team,” Siddharth said.

Manimaran Siddharth, who was born in Jakarta, Indonesia, moved to Chennai at a young age to pursue his cricket ambitions. This marks his s second IPL stint, having been signed by the Kolkata Knight Riders after an impressive showing in the 2019 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Injuries led to his release from both the Knight Riders and later the Delhi Capitals during IPL 2020. LSG purchased him for Rs 2.4 crore in last year’s auction after his two-season stint as a net bowler with the Mumbai Indians and the Chennai Super Kings.
