Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan slammed Australia pacer Mitchell Starc for the way he bowled last night against the Rajasthan Royals in match number 31 of the Indian Premier League 2024 season.

The 2-time 50-over World Cup winner, who won his second last year against India at the Narendra Modi stadium, was taken to the cleaners in front of home fans at the Eden Gardens stadium. Starc was one of the main reasons why KKR wasn't able to win the match despite reaching close to the target.

Mitchell Starc was bought by the KKR management by splashing a whopping and unseen amount of INR 24.75 Crores in Dubai on December 19th. However, the left-arm fast bowler has not even paid back a single penny of the sum that the franchise paid.

It is unknown whether or not Starc will be getting back to his best this season but one thing's for sure, if things remain the same way, then it is going to be a very long season for the Australian.

Another reason behind his dip in form could be the fact that Mitchell Starc is playing in the IPL after a gap of 8 years with his previous appearance coming in the 2015 season for the RCB. Since then, he hasn't taken part in a single season.

While that may be a reason behind his poor form, the fact cannot be ignored that KKR paid more than they could have even imagined. So Starc must aim to get back at his best and win the franchise at least 3-4 matches if not all of the remaining ones.

What did Irfan Pathan say about Mitchell Starc?

Irfan Pathan, who is a part of the Hindi commentary team in Star Sports, took to X (formerly Twitter) and took a cryptic dig towards the Knight Riders by directly targeting Mitchell Starc. Pathan had very simple words, "Most expensive player in your team can’t be your weak link."

There are nothing but facts in his tweet. The player, who was being considered as the most important and strongest link of the team after the auctions, cannot be the weakest link of the same team. This is almost like a backstab, a slap in the face, and a splash of water that spoils a beautiful painting on a canvas.
Signing a deal of over 20 crores just to get thrashed by local as well as foreign batters and concede a half-century of runs himself? Is this the Mitchell Starc that KKR bought?
Or is it like the Shashank Singh confusion that Punjab Kings had but for a fact, Shashank is having a far better season Starc. The only that is saving Starc at the moment from absolute barbaric criticism is the fact that KKR is still performing well without him.
Had Shreyas Iyer and co. lost their matches or weren't in the top four, then Mitchell Starc might have faced what Hardik Pandya is facing in this season. Regardless, if he wants to go from Kolkata with happy memories, then he must start staging a turnaround already otherwise it might get too late.
