Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif shed light on Pat Cummins's decision to withdraw an appeal during the 18th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Mohammad Kaif directed questions at Pat Cummins regarding the withdrawal against Ravindra Jadeja for obstructing the field appeal.
Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to bowl first at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Friday, April 5. The Hyderabad bowlers made a commendable effort, restricting CSK to 165-5 in 20 overs. Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten, scoring 31 runs off 23 deliveries.
The incident occurred on the fourth ball of the penultimate over of the Super Kings' innings. Jadeja struck Bhuvneshwar Kumar's yorker-length delivery back towards the bowler. After hitting the ball, Bhuvneshwar attempted to run out Jadeja, who had moved out of the crease. However, Jadeja was struck by the throw as he tried to return to the crease.

Heinrich Klaasen, the SRH keeper, questioned the umpires, while Bhuvneshwar and captain Cummins showed no interest and resumed play. Despite Klaasen's suggestion, Cummins chose not to pursue the appeal. This sportsmanlike decision earned praise on social media.
Cummins showcased his bowling prowess by securing figures of 1-29 in four overs. He dismissed in-form batter Shivam Dube, who scored 45 runs off 24 deliveries. Bhuvneshwar, T Natarajan, Shahbaz Ahmed, and Jaydev Unadkat each contributed one wicket to their names.
Two Questions To Pat Cummins - Mohammad Kaif
Mohammad Kaif asked whether Pat Cummins' decision was a tactical move to keep a struggling Jadeja at the crease and delay MS Dhoni's entrance. He also questioned if Cummins would have made the same choice with Virat Kohli in a World T20 match.
"Two questions to Pat Cummins on withdrawing the obstructing the field appeal against Jadeja. Was it a tactical call to let a struggling Jadeja be the crease and keep Dhoni indoors? Would he have done the same if it was Virat Kohli at the World T20?" Kaif wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Jadeja struggled to hit boundaries, managing only four fours during his 23-ball innings. MS Dhoni entered the pitch with just three balls left. The former CSK skipper faced only two deliveries and scored a single against Natarajan, contributing to CSK's total of 165.
They Bowled Well In The Back End - Ruturaj Gaikwad
Reflecting on the match, Ruturaj Gaikwad commented on the challenging pitch and praised SRH's effective bowling strategy in the final overs.
"I think to be honest, it was a slow pitch, They bowled well in the back end, kept the game in control, and didn't allow us to capitalise. I thought we did well in the beginning (of the match), but they came back well later. We conceded too many in the batting PP, one dropped catch and one expensive over," Gaikwad said after the defeat.
CSK faced a formidable challenge from Abhishek Sharma, who scored 37 off 12 balls. Sunrisers Hyderabad secured a comfortable six-wicket victory against the defending champions. Chennai recorded its second consecutive loss in IPL 2024, both occurring away from home.
