Mohammed Shami to undergo ankle surgery; in major doubt for IPL 2024 - Reports

In a massive blow for the Gujarat Titans (GT), the veteran India National Cricket Team pacer Mohammed Shami is in major doubt for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024).

Shami is one of the best pacers in the Indian circuit and he has proved to be equally dominant across all formats of the game. He has been extremely impressive in the last few years of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and has been one of the key reasons behind the outstanding performance of Gujarat Titans (GT) in the cash-rich league.

Gujarat Titans (GT) joined the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2022 and in the debut season itself, they managed to win the IPL trophy. Gujarat Titans Could Miss Mohammed Shami For Entire IPL 2024

As per the latest reports in ESPNcricinfo, Mohammed Shami is doubtful for IPL 2024 and he is likely to undergo ankle surgery, potentially just before the tournament, which may even rule him out of the entire competition.

Mohammed Shami was last seen in action on November 19 – a forgettable day for Indian cricket – in the final of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 against the Australia National Cricket Team.

Mohammed Shami missed the initial matches of the competition before being included in the playing XI following the injury to Hardik Pandya. He didn’t look back after his inclusion in the line-up and kept on delivering back-to-back stupendous performances. He finished the competition as the leading wicket-taker with 24 wickets.

It was reported that Mohammed Shamiwas taking injections to treat his ankle during the World Cup and continued to do so even after the tournament. After the World Cup, Shami was expected to take part in South Africa Tests, but his participation was subject to fitness. In the end, he wasn’t cleared by the NCA medical staff and since that, he has been out of action.

The absence of Mohammed Shami will be a hammering blow to Gujarat Titans (GT) as they will also be without Hardik Pandya as he was traded to Mumbai Indians (MI). Shubman Gill has been named the new skipper of the team and will lead the side in IPL 2024, which is set to begin on March 22.
