Mohammed Shami has been out of competitive cricket since the conclusion of the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 as he is nursing an ankle injury. The star Indian pacer was the best bowler in the ODI World Cup where he ended up being the highest wicket-taker of the tournament after being dropped from the squad for the first four games. He took 24 wickets in just seven games for India at an average of 10.71 in the ODI World Cup.

Mohammed Shami was recently asked in an interview with News18 about who is the best bowler in India and his reply to the question is going viral on the internet.

Shami has always performed for the Indian side whenever he has got the opportunity. In the Men’s ODI World Cup 2023, he took three fifers which is a record by any fast bowler in World Cup cricket.

Mohammed Shami started his World Cup campaign with a fifer against New Zealand and then again took a fifer against Sri Lanka. The most important spell from him came against New Zealand in the semi-finals where he took 7/57 against the BlackCaps.

When he was asked in the interview, ‘Who is the best Indian bowler according to him in India?’, he replied by pointing a finger towards himself saying, “Apne se jyada kyu manna kisi ko? (Why consider anyone above myself?)”

Mohammad Shami was also asked about his favorite bowler to which he replied, “I don’t consider pace if you have the pace but you pitch the ball left or right, I don’t consider that. If you’re accurate then I feel you’re better.”

“There’s Dale Steyn, I liked Waqar Younis, Wasim Akram, and Glenn McGrath. There are many bowlers and if you talk about Indian bowlers then Zaheer Khan and Kapil Dev are there. They were not fast but they were lethal while bowling at 135-140.”

Mohammed Shami is currently nursing his ankle injury and is expected to return during the IPL 2024. He is missing out on the ongoing India-England five-match Test series where Jasprit Bumrah is wreaking havoc in his absence.

Jasprit Bumrah has taken 15 wickets in four innings in the ongoing series which includes a six-fer in the first innings of the second Test where he also completed his 150 Test wickets in his career.

Mohammed Shami will return during the IPL and will represent the Gujarat Titans. He was the purple cap winner in the last season of the IPL for taking the most wickets.

He took 28 wickets in 17 games at an average of 18.61 in the league. He has been one of the most consistent bowlers for India and has played a key role for the national team in various competitions.

India is currently facing England in the third Test of the five-match series at the Niranjan Shah Cricket Stadium in Rajkot. Jasprit Bumrah is leading the pace attack for India and has been consistent enough to dominate the series. He was the Player of The Match in the second Test which was played in Vizag.
