Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni has dropped a massive hint about his future in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. MS Dhoni might miss the Super Kings’ upcoming match against the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the marquee tournament.

MS Dhoni stepped down from the captaincy of the Chennai Super Kings a day before the first match of the IPL 2024. Dhoni was replaced by Ruturaj Gaikwad as the new leader of the Men in Yellow, indicating a captaincy transition for the five-time champions.

MS Dhoni Skips Consecutive Practice Sessions

Before CSK’s next match in the prestigious tournament, MS Dhoni skipped consecutive practice sessions. It seems that Aravelly Avanish conducted wicketkeeping practice on Saturday, March 30, indicating Dhoni might skip the match.

Following his retirement from international cricket in August 2020, Dhoni has dedicated himself entirely to the IPL. Despite rumors of retirement following a knee injury last year, the legendary captain made himself available to play for the Super Kings in the IPL 2024.

Aravelly Avanish To Make His IPL Debut vs Delhi Capitals?

Apart from Dhoni, Aravelly Avanish stands as the sole recognized wicketkeeper in the CSK squad. Avanish was part of the Indian team that reached the final of the Under-19 World Cup 2024. He showcased brilliance behind the stumps but hadn’t excelled with the bat.

Avanish Aravelly was acquired for Rs 20 lakh at the auction. The 18-year-old wicketkeeper batter joined the team as a wicketkeeper after only two List-A game appearances. The southpaw scored just one run in his List A career, with a dismal average of 0.50.

Opening batter Devon Conway, another option for the gloves, is sidelined due to injury. The left-handed batter is expected to miss the season’s initial matches because of a thumb injury sustained last month during New Zealand’s T20I series against Australia.

MS Dhoni Certainly Helped Me Out – Steve Smith

Speaking on Star Sports, Australia’s ace batter Steve Smith praised MS Dhoni, highlighting his down-to-earth nature despite his immense popularity. Smith credited him for being a supportive teammate and a valuable mentor during their stint together in the IPL.

“He’s such a chilled guy, obviously extremely busy with loads of things outside the game, but extremely chilled down to earth, and a wonderful person. There were many occasions where MS was fantastic. You know, I really enjoyed playing with him. I enjoyed leading him as well. He certainly helped me out,” Smith said.

After the Pune-based franchise finished in the bottom half of the table in 2016 under Dhoni’s leadership, Smith took over as captain. Despite their strong effort, the team narrowly missed the title, losing to the Mumbai Indians in the final clash by just one run.

Ruturaj Gaikwad’s team is scheduled to take on the Delhi Capitals (DC) in their upcoming match at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Sunday, March 31st.
