Legendary wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni stole the show during the 29th game of the ongoing IPL 2024 between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Wankhede Stadium.

On Sunday, April 14, Dhoni, former captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), played a blistering knock of 20* off just 4 balls laced with a hattrick of sixes against the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the packed Wankhede Stadium. Dhoni’s blazing knock proved decisive in CSK’s 20-run win over MI.

After the MI vs CSK match, former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer shared a cryptic post on social media, and it has sparked intense speculation about Dhoni’s future. Jaffer lauded the former Indian skipper for his amazing hitting against Mumbai and hinted at an unexpected call from Dhoni.

MS Dhoni likely to play another IPL season?

While there have been speculations that the ongoing IPL 2024 will be Dhoni’s last season, Jaffer feels the legendary cricketer might have different plans, given his tendency to go against expectations.

Sharing Dhoni’s picture on X (formerly known as Twitter), Wasim Jaffer said: “MS has always done things that no one expected especially when it comes to retiring from formats. Now everyone is expecting him to retire after this IPL…Baki Aap Khud Samajhdar Hai. 😉 #MIvCSK #IPL2024”

Meanwhile, Anand Mahindra, Chairman of Mahindra Group, lauded Dhoni for his hat trick of sixes against MI in a very special way. He called the legendary cricketer the ‘greatest finisher ever’ and expressed his elation for getting the name “Mahi-ndra”.

Anand Mahindra wrote on the X: “Show me one sportsperson who thrives more than this man—on unrealistic expectations & pressure…It only seems to add fuel to his fire. Today, I’m simply grateful that my name is Mahi-ndra….🙂.”

MI vs CSK clash in brief

Speaking about the MI vs CSK match, after being invited to bat first, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) managed to muster 206/4 in their allotted 20 overs, thanks to brilliant fifties from the skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad (69) and Shivam Dube (66*), as well as the blistering cameo from Dhoni.

For the Mumbai Indians (MI), the skipper Hardik Pandya picked two wickets, returning with the match figures of 2/43 in 3 overs against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Wankhede Stadium.

With the loss, MI slipped to the 8th spot in the IPL 2024 points table, while CSK remained in the third spot with 8 points from 6 games so far in the tournament. MI will next face the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the ongoing IPL 2024 on April 18 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur.

On the other hand, CSK will next face the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 19 in the ongoing IPL 2024 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
