Glenn Maxwell heaped praises on IPL 2024 new pace sensation Mayank Yadav, who has grabbed the limelight after his debut for Lucknow Super Giants. Glenn Maxwell said Mayank Yadav reminds him of Shaun Tait at his peak.

Mayank Yadav has played just two games in IPL 2024. In both games, he clocked speeds above 150+ consistently. He grabbed 3-wicket hauls in both games and won the Player of the Match award. He also broke the record for fastest delivery in IPL 2024 in one game. It was later broken by MI pacer Gerald Coetzee.

Shaun Tait is a former Australia pacer who was known as the fastest bowler in international cricket during his active career. Notably, Shaun Tait also holds the record for the fastest-ever delivery in Indian Premier League. The now-retired Aussie pacer picked 23 wickets in 21 IPL games averaging 27.83.

Mayank Yadav resembles Shaun Tait: Glenn Maxwell

While speaking to ESPN Cricinfo, Glenn Maxwell lauded Mayank Yadav. Maxwell feels the LSG pacer has a beautiful smooth action. He also asserted Yadav resembles Shaun Tait.

"It's such a beautiful smooth action. He [Mayank] sort of glided through the crease really nicely. I think pace-wise, the only one that I can sort of really resemble it to is a little bit like Shaun Tait when he was in his heyday", Maxwell said.

"I think when he was at the peak of his powers it was extremely hard to pick up the extra zip it feels like it has off the wicket. I think that's as close as it probably comes to it," the RCB all-rounder further added.

Mayank Yadav has some real extra speed: Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell, who has struggled to fire in IPL 2024 so far, also feels bowling at 150 KMPH consistently is pretty formidable for Mayank Yadav as such bowlers are very few in international cricket currently.

"He has some real extra speed that you don't really see a lot of around world cricket at the moment. You see guys bowl pretty consistently around the 140s [kph] or high 140s. But to have mid-150s consistently in your arsenal is pretty formidable," Maxwell added.

Interestingly, Glenn Maxwell became a victim of Mayank Yadav in the previous RCB vs LSG clash. Yadav dismissed the Aussie batter for a two-ball duck in the match. Speaking about his dismissal, Maxwell said he did a homework against Yadav's bowling but it didn't work out.

"I thought it was really impressive. He hurried on a few of the Punjab batters and I certainly did a little bit of homework before coming up against him. But it's nothing doing homework against someone until you actually see it coming out of the hand and have to try and pick up the length", the Australia all-rounder further said.

Maxwell's struggle continues in IPL 2024

Meanwhile, Maxwell has highly failed to make a mark in IPL 2024 with the bat. The right-handed batter has added just 31 runs across 4 games, getting out for ducks twice. He has hunted 4 wickets while bowling at 7.37 economy.

RCB has lost 3 games out of 4 in IPL 2024. They will next face Rajasthan Royals on Saturday, April 6. The venue of IPL 2024 match 19 is Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
