Former Australia cricketer turned expert analyst Tom Moody has found similarity between Pat Cummins and former India and CSK captain MS Dhoni in terms of captaincy.

Moody made these comments while speaking in ESPNcricinfo's post-match show after the Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated the Chennai Super Kings in front of home support at the Rajiv Gandhi stadium last night.

Cummins' side registered their second victory of the season by 6-wickets and went as high as 4th in the points table.

A lot of appreciation and praise must be directed towards SRH captain Pat Cummins, who is full time captaining a T20 team for the first time in his career.

The right-arm pacer, who led the Australian team towards victory in the World Test Championship and ICC Cricket World Cup last year, is also captaining an IPL team for the first time in his career. Until now, he has done quite well with his tactics and is proving his worth as well as the price that the Sunrisers owners paid for him.

Pat Cummins was made the most expensive player ever in the IPL auction for 2024 season in December last year moments before the introduction of his Aussie teammate Mitchell Starc.

While Cummins bagged INR 20.50 Crores, Starc bagged a deal worth 24.75 Crores. The latter has found it difficult to adapt to the conditions up till now but his captain in the National team has been decent with his bowling performance as well as leadership skills.

Tom Moody claims Pat Cummins always thinks outside of the box

While speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Tom Moody claimed that Pat Cummins is quite like MS Dhoni in terms of captaincy tactics and thinking differently than other captains.

The former SRH head coach, who led the franchise towards their last IPL title win back in 2016, praise Cummins for thinking outside of the box and used his decision to let Abhishek Sharma bowl the first over with the new ball, as a prime example for it.

Cummins could have handed Bhuvaneshwar Kumar the new ball but he chose to let a spinner bowl the first one.

"The one thing I like about Cummins is he is a bit like MS Dhoni. He is prepared to make a decision that most people don't think about, but makes you feel like, 'Why didn't I think about that?' Like the Abhishek Sharma over. It was quite an odd decision when you look at the other options they could have gone with." - Tom Moody said via ESPNcricinfo.

Moody also praises Cummins' ability to back his decision

Tom Moody then reminded everyone of the options that Pat Cummins had in terms of spinning option but he still went with Abhishek Sharma and not Aiden Markram or anyother one. Another thing that Moody highlighted was Cummins' self-belief and the confidence he shows in terms of backing his own decisions.

"You have got an off-spinner against left-handers. You think Markram would be another one. There was plenty of other ways he could have gone. But he committed to that and it looked like from the get go, he convinced himself that it was the right decision." - Moody concluded.
