Not Virat Kohli!! Kevin Pietersen asks Indian selectors to keep an eye on this Indian player after RCB vs PBKS clash

Former England, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Delhi Capitals captain Kevin Pietersen was all praise for Punjab Kings’ off-spinner Harpreet Brar for the way he bowled last night. However, Brar’s economical bowling went in vain as the Faf du Plessis-led RCB registered their first victory of the IPL 2024 season by 4 wickets in front of home support at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium. Virat Kohli was adjudged as man of the match last night for his 77 off 49.
While Kohli produced a notable performance for the first time since his return to competitive cricket after 3 months, Harpreet Brar from the other side was equally sensational. It’s just that the left-arm off-spinner remained on the losing side of things but the way he had bowled, Punjab deserved to win the game. But a few bad decisions from captain Shikhar Dhawan kept the team away from going to the top of the points table with their second consecutive match.
Punjab’s bowling unit’s lack of effectiveness and lethality in the death overs cost them the entire game as, despite getting Kohli and Anuj Rawat out before the 17th over, Dinesh Karthik and Mahipal Lomror guided RCB home. Harpreet Brar must be gutted with the loss but Kevin Pietersen said something earlier today that might cheer him up.
Pietersen appeals to Indian chief selectors to keep an eye on Harpreet Brar
After watching the entire game closely from the commentary box, Kevin Pietersen anyways had high praise for Harpreet Brar but earlier today he expressed himself better on X (formerly Twitter). The 43-year-old highlighted the amount of “sporting joy” that IPL 2024 has served until now as teams have unearthed some brilliantly talented players.
Pietersen then shed light on the sensational performance from Harpreet Brar and he was so impressed that he asked the Indian selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar to keep an eye on the off-spinner. KP’s appeal to the selectors was mainly for them to give a chance to Brar for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 later this June in the USA and West Indies.
“Goodness me, doesn’t the IPL just serve up so much sporting joy? How good was Harpreet Brah last night? Indian selectors MUST keep a close eye on him for the WC!” – Kevin Pietersen wrote on X.

Maybe Pietersen has a valid point. The surface over there in the West Indies is usually slow, favors spinners, and offers plenty of turn. Since tracks will be slow, Harpreet Brar could turn out to be a huge asset with his left-arm slow bowling but IPL 2024 is in its early days and Brar will have to put up similar performances consistently. He registered outstanding figures of 2/13 last night and bowled at an unbelievable economy rate of 3.25.
Kevin Pietersen also applauds Virat Kohli
Pietersen also took note of Virat Kohli’s comeback knock of 77 for the first time since his return. Pietersen expressed his delight to see Kohli’s knock and claimed that he was a joy to watch. “And, my boy VK, you buddy, are more than joy.” – Pietersen concluded.
