Former Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist recently picked the top batter across franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Surprisingly, renowned batters such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Riyan Parag, and Shubman Gill were notably absent from Adam Gilchrist's selection.
In the IPL 2024, competition intensified among franchises, with the Rajasthan Royals (RR) leading the table with eight points from five matches. Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) struggled at the bottom, managing only two points with a net run rate (NRR) of -1.124.
Virat Kohli maintains his position as the leading run-scorer this season, scoring 319 runs in six games at an impressive average of 79.75 and a strike rate of 141.77. Riyan Parag holds the second spot in the batting charts, having scored 261 runs in five innings with a strike rate of 158.18.
Shubman Gill maintains third place, amassing 255 runs in six matches with an average of 51. Sanju Samson is the fourth-leading run scorer, scoring 246 runs in five outings at a strike rate of 157.69. Sai Sudharsan holds the fifth spot, with 226 runs in six innings at an average of 37.66.
Adam Gilchrist Picks Sanju Samson As Standout Batter In IPL 2024

I Would Take Sanju Samson As Well - Adam Gilchrist
Adam Gilchrist weighed in on the competition among Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, and Ishan Kishan for spots in the T20 World Cup 2024 team. While acknowledging Ishan's strong performance, Gilchrist endorsed Samson as the ideal choice alongside Pant.
“I expect Rishabh Pant to be there definitely. And I would take Sanju Samson as well. Kishan is pushing a very good case, no doubt about that. But I think Rishabh Pant if he is not locked in, he should be locked in,” he told Cricbuzz.
The wicketkeeper-batter role witnessed fierce competition among six players vying for just two spots in the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup. With IPL 2024 reaching its halfway point, the BCCI is poised to unveil the 15-member squad for the ICC event by the end of April.
KL Rahul, Jitesh Sharma, and Dhruv Jurel were also contenders for the wicketkeeping positions in the World Cup team. As the tournament approached, Jitesh emerged as the frontrunner, having participated in seven of the eleven T20I matches India played following the ODI World Cup.
A series of poor performances for the Punjab Kings pushed Jitesh behind in the race, while Jurel struggled to secure consistent batting opportunities with the Rajasthan Royals.
Meanwhile, Pant, who had been sidelined for 15 months due to a car accident in December 2022, bounced back with consecutive fifties, scoring 153 runs in five innings during the IPL 2024.
