Punjab Kings, the IPL franchise unveiled their new jersey ahead of IPL 2024 on March 16. The franchise finished eighth on the points table winning six games and losing eight games.

The jersey was launched amidst the presence of co-owner Preity Zinta and Satish Menon the CEO of the franchise. Over the years, Punjab kings have tried every possible way to win the title but have failed. Arguably, they have been the most underachieving side in the tournament. They have played the final only once and have finished sixth or below in most of the seasons.

It was the Punjab Kings skipper Shikhar Dhawan who unveiled the new jersey. Preity Zinta further revealed why Punjab Kings gave up on their white, grey, and silver in their jersey. She said that they were almost forced to take out the jersey after BCCI had their objections. She further said that the board asked them to give up their jersey as the ball matched the complexion of their jersey back then.

The new red jersey has been made according to international standards. The fabric for the new jersey has been imported from Vietnam and the manufacturing of the same has been done in India by PlayR.

It is 20 percent lighter and 30 percent more stretchable and has been made using anti-sweat, anti-odor, anti-bacterial, and anti-pilling technologies. The jersey is further protected from UV rays and hence the color will not fade away.

The jersey has been made with international standards with the red color representing passion, spirit, and vigor- something the Shers of Punjab stands for.

“We are delighted to launch our new jersey in front of our loyal fans, who are the backbone of the team. The new colours reflect the emotions and pulse of Punjab and everything it stands for. The team will represent the fans on the field and make some unforgettable memories in the new stadium.” said Preity G Zinta, Punjab Kings co-owner.

The Kesari patterns at the bottom of the jersey are inspired by fire, a symbol deeply rooted in our traditions, resonating with auspicious beginnings. It further signifies the pride of being a Punjab and the wealth of history associated with it.

“The love and passion of the sher squad are infectious and it is hard for me to put into words how happy I am, to be back here. We have an exciting team this season that will give everything on the pitch as we look forward to donning the vibrant new jersey and playing at the new home ground in front of all of you.” said Shikhar Dhawan, the Captain of Punjab Kings

Despite Punjab not having good seasons, Shikhar Dhawan has scored over 500 runs in the last two seasons. He scored 460 runs in 2022 and 273 runs in 2023. The last time Punjab Kings reached the playoffs was in 2014 when they played the finals against KKR and lost it. They have finished sixth or below consistently in the league.
