Punjab Kings takes on Gujarat Titans in match 16 of IPL 2024 on Thursday, April 4 in Ahmedabad. The match starts at 7.30 pm IST. This is the final away game for the Kings before they return to Mohali for four back-to-back home games.
Punjab Kings are heading into this match on the back of losses against RCB and Lucknow Super Giants. Interestingly, they failed to defend against Royal Challengers Bangalore and chase 200 against the Super Giants.
Punjab Kings have been the perennial underachievers in the IPL. Before the season started no one backed them to make the final four. From changing support staff to captains to the name of the team the Kings have tried every possible way to end the trophy drought but nothing has worked so far.
They began the season with a good win over Delhi Capitals but back-to-back losses against RCB and LSG have pushed them back on the points.
The batting lineup looks heavily top-heavy. The likes of Sam Curran, Jitesh Sharma, and Liam Livingstone have not been consistent. Livingstone struggled with a hamstring injury in the previous match against LSG. It will be interesting to see whether he plays the next game. Sikandar Raza can be an ideal replacement for him.
With the ball, the likes of Kagiso Rabada and Arshdeep Singh have not been penetrative enough. Their spin bowling attack looks weak with a lack of options. Rahul Chahar has been well below par in this season so far. In this article, we predict Punjab Kings’ playing XI against Gujarat Titans for IPL 2024 match 17.
Punjab Kings Playing 11 vs Gujarat Titans- IPL 2024, Match 17
Shikhar Dhawan (C)

Dhawan scored 70 off 50 balls against LSG. He is currently number four on the run-getters list. He is 30 short of 1000 IPL runs for Punjab Kings and 246 short of 7000 IPL runs. The southpaw has been a prolific scorer in the IPL over the years.
Jonny Bairstow

Bairstow scored 42 against LSG. That is his only substantial score in the first three games. The Kings also have someone like Rilee Rossouw who can replace him at the top of the order.
Sam Curran

Curran has been asked to bat at the top of the order by the Kings. He scored 63 against Delhi Capitals, 23 against RCB, and a first-ball-duck against LSG. He should hold onto his place.
Sikandar Raza

With Liam Livingstone injured, Sikandar Raza can replace him in the lineup. He is an experienced T20 cricketer and played a few good knocks for the Kings last season. He provides them with a bowling option as well.
Jitesh Sharma (WK)

Jitesh can slot in at five. In the previous season, he showed good form with the bat has not replicated his form this season so far. He is auditioning for the wicketkeeper-batter’s role for the T20 World Cup.
Shashank Singh

Shashank scored a blazing cameo of 21 off 8 balls that took the Kings past 170 against RCB. Against LSG he scored 9 off 7. He is perfectly capable of playing important cameos for the side.
Harpreet Brar

Brar can bat at seven. He is capable of using the long handle with the ball and contributing to the team’s total. So far with the ball, he has taken three wickets from three games.
Kagiso Rabada
Harshal Patel

Harshal can clot in at nine. He has been expensive at the death overs leaking runs at an economy of over 10 runs per over. So far this season he has averaged 45.67 with the ball with just three wickets.
Arshdeep Singh

Arshdeep Singh will lead the Kings’ pace attack. He has been good at the top with his line and length but unlucky not to get too many wickets. He has picked up just four wickets in the season so far.
Rahul Chahar

Chahar concludes the likely XI for the Punjab Kings. He is the third spin option in the lineup. However, he has not picked wickets and has been expensive. He has picked up 8 wickets this season so far.
Impact Sub- Prabhsimran Singh

The right-hander has been Punjab’s designated Impact sub. He has been used with the bat in the top-order. Against LSG, he scored 19 off 7 balls. So far in the three games he has scored 370 runs at an average of 23.33
