Virat Kohli's childhood coach, Rajkumar Sharma, launched a scathing attack on the critics, who are unnecessary in targeting the former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain over his strike rate during their last IPL 2024 match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Jaipur.

He expressed frustration at the people who have been criticizing Kohli's strike rate, as he leveled their remarks as "nonsense." Sharma also stressed that the RCB star often faces unjustified criticism due to his popularity, as some individuals seek attention by discussing him negatively.

If they talk about Virat Kohli, then the news will be sold: Rajkumar Sharma

Rajkumar Sharma was quoted as saying by the media, “Those who say Virat Kohli scored a slow century, first check the match situation, conditions, and then say. They know if they talk about Kohli then news will be sold, they will come into the limelight, and they will get recognized.”

Notably, Kohli scored an unbeaten 113 runs off 72 deliveries at a strike rate of 156.94 to help RCB post 183 runs on the board against the Rajasthan Royals (RR). India’s batting superstar stood tall when the wickets were falling, and he played patiently to ensure RCB posted a good total on the board.

However, despite Kohli's stellar innings, RR successfully chased down the target in the last over to secure a six-wicket victory, as they handed RCB their fourth loss in the ongoing IPL 2024. After the match, many have been questioning Kohli’s slow innings and slamming his strike rate.

Now, Rajkumar Sharma said that it was merely a lobby pushing an agenda against Kohli to gain attention and limelight, as Kohli is already the leading run-scorer in the ongoing IPL 2024 at the moment with 316 runs in just 5 innings so far.

"It is a lobby that is running an agenda": Kohli's childhood coach

Speaking with ‘Indian Sports Fans’ founder Sunil Yash Kalra on India News, Virat Kohli’s childhood coach said: “A few people who are talking this nonsense, I think they don’t know the context of the match, what was the situation of the match and how the team was struggling.”

He further noted, “ They only speak to get into the news; simply because whenever you speak about any ordinary player, it doesn’t get you placed in the news headlines but if you speak about a player like Virat Kohli, it gets you in the headlines of the newspapers.”

Sharma signed off by saying, “ See, it is a lobby that is running an agenda; they are just driving an agenda, and we as the fans or true analysts don’t give a damn about their agenda. See, the King will always be king. The person who knows even the ‘C’ of cricket will never talk any nonsense like this.”

Notably, Virat Kohli will be seen in action on April 11, when Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will lock horns against the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. RCB is positioned at the 9th spot, while MI is at the 8th spot in the IPL 2024 points table at the moment.
