Former England and Punjab Kings all-rounder Ravi Bopara shared an interesting anecdote about the franchise’s co-owner Preity Zinta having to make Aloo Parathas for him during the 2nd IPL edition. Bopara made this claim while speaking to FanCode’s special IPL show named “The Super Over” along with former Indian left-arm off-spinner Murali Karthik.
Ravi Bopara was a part of the Punjab-based franchise in the 2009 and 2010 seasons when the franchise used to be known as Kings XI Punjab. That was the former England all-rounder’s 2 of the 3 seasons he played in the IPL with his 3rd and last season coming in 2015 for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Across those editions, Bopara scored 531 runs from a total of 24 matches and he had also scalped 11 wickets.
He is most prominently known for his sting with Punjab as Ravi Bopara used to be a great asset not just for the franchise but also for the England national team. But it will also be fair to say that Bopara had an underrated and under-the-radar type of career despite being a handy player with both bat and ball.
Ravi Bopara says he’s forever grateful to Preity Zinta for serving him aloo parathas
While speaking to former Punjab King teammate Murali Karthik in the Super Over show, Ravi Bopara revealed that one of his best moments of IPL came when Preity Zinta served him aloo parathas. Bopara narrated about the first time he came to play in the tournament in 2009 and therein his favorite moment other than winning and scoring runs was the Bollywood icon preparing him a breakfast with her own hands.
That’s something that most of us only dream of but Ravi Bopara lived that moment and considers it to be the best moment ever and he is forever thankful to his former team owner.
“My first experience of IPL came in 2009 when it was played in South Africa. My favorite moment apart from winning, and getting my highest score, was when Preity Zinta cooked parathas for me. She made them with her own hands. She said: “What do you want for breakfast?” I said aloo parathas, and she said ‘No problem’. I am forever thankful for that gesture.” – Bopara said via FanCode’s The Super Over show.
In fact, during Punjab Kings’ recent loss against RCB at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium, Preity Zinta confirmed that she had to make 120 aloo parathas for the entire team in 2009. She narrated that parathas over there in the South African hotel were average and she told the chefs about giving them a class on it.
After it came to the notice of the players, they asked Zinta to serve them the famous Punjabi dish as well, and to that she agreed but in a solid condition. If Punjab had won their next game (which they did) Zinta would fulfilled her promise and then she went to make an unbelievable 120 parathas.
Punjab Kings to travel Lucknow up next
Meanwhile, after winning and losing their first 2 matches of IPL 2024, Punjab Kings will be traveling to Uttar Pradesh for this season’s 2nd North Indian derby against Lucknow Super Giants. Out of the only 3 meetings between the two teams, LSG have come out on top twice whereas PBKS have won only once.
