Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter Rinku Singh credited Gautam Gambhir for Sunil Narine's batting performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Rinku Singh stated that he liked Gautam Gambhir's idea, especially promoting Sunil Narine in the batting order in the ongoing season.

Sunil Narine was reinstated as an opener this year, which proved to be successful for the Knight Riders. He has scored 276 runs in six games at an average of 46.00 and an outstanding strike rate of 187.76. He is in third place among the leading run-getters, behind Virat Kohli and Riyan Parag.

The 35-year-old cricketer smashed his maiden T20 century against the Rajasthan Royals at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Tuesday, April 16. The southpaw reached his century off just 49 balls and became the only third KKR player to achieve the milestone in the history of the tournament.

Narine scored 109 runs off 56 balls, featuring 13 fours and six maximums, before being dismissed by RR pacer Trent Boult. The spin bowler picked up two wickets while defending a total of 223 runs. However, the home team suffered a two-wicket loss in a nail-biting encounter in Kolkata.

Sunil Narine Is Scoring Runs In Almost Every Match - Rinku Singh

Rinku Singh pointed out that Sunil Narine has been scoring consistently in the ongoing tournament. Rinku revealed that Gautam Gambhir decided to promote Narine in the batting order.

“You can see the new ideas of Gautam Gambhir in Sunil Narine – who is opening for KKR now. He is scoring runs in almost every match, that idea of Gautam Gambhir is what I liked very much. All things are normal besides this.”

Sunil Narine Used To Swing His Bat To Every Ball - Rinku Singh

When asked about the transformation in Sunil Narine's batting, Rinku Singh said that he modified his style according to the merit of the ball rather than swinging his bat to every ball.

"Nothing much has changed. It's the result of his sheer hard work at the nets. I've just noticed one change he's more patient now. Earlier he used to swing his bat to every ball, now he has restrained himself and playing according to the merit of the ball. He is batting thoughtfully and wisely."

Rinku Singh has scored 83 runs at 27.66 and an outstanding strike rate of over 184. The left-handed batter played as an 'Impact Player' in the recent matches, despite his exceptional fielding prowess. KKR fielding coach Ryan Ten Doeschate revealed that Singh has been carrying a side injury.

The Shreyas Iyer-led team is currently in second place in the 10-team points table, having won four matches out of six matches. The KKR team has points on their tally with a net run rate (NRR) of +1.399. The team will host the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), who sit at the bottom of the table, in their next match on Sunday, April 21.
