Rohit Sharma reveals he didn't expect the fans to do this after..

There is nothing bigger than the trophy. That's what Team India captain Rohit Sharma believes. Regardless of how many runs, centuries, or fifties a batter scores, all of that doesn't matter when the team doesn't end up becoming World Champions.

It was the case last year when India, despite having the batter with the most runs and bowler with the most wickets in the tournament, failed to win the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 final against Australia.

After a run of 10 matches without a loss, India jinxed it all in the 11th match and the reaction of Indian fans after the final loss shocked the Indian captain.

Rohit Sharma, along with former India teammate Shreyas Iyer recently appeared in the Great Indian Kapil Sharma show, which is being aired only on OTT platform Netflix.

Therein, host Kapil Sharma asked Rohit to shed light on India's WC loss on November 19th and the 36-year-old spoke about the reactions and responses he received from the fans after that night in Ahmedabad.

It was perhaps the closest opportunity that the Men in Blue had to quench their first for an ICC trophy since 2013.

The Champions Trophy, which India won a decade ago under MS Dhoni's captaincy, remains the last international silverware that team India touched.

Rohit Sharma still has one more chance this year to finish the trophy drought when he captains the team in the ICC T20 World Cup later this June.

It will be his second time captaining India in a T20 WC and 4th ICC tournament overall as the leader. Everyone in the country is hoping that Jay Shah's prophecy proves right and Rohit and Co. hoist the tri-color in the USA and West Indies.

Rohit Sharma says fans welcomed and appreciated him after the WC final loss

In response to Kapil Sharma's question, Rohit Sharma started by mentioning the extraordinary performance that team India showcased during the WC. Rohit said that the team was on auto-pilot mode following the sensational 10-match winning streak and that they had a great 2-day training camp in Ahmedabad before the finale.

But things took a very different turn in the final and Australia had walked away with the WC trophy for the 6th time, denying India their chance to clinch a 3rd.

Rohit Sharma then revealed that he was expecting people in the country to maybe burn posters of his and slam him relentlessly but he was shocked by the way he was welcomed and appreciated by the fans.

"I thought people would be quite upset, people will be disappointed. But, wherever I went after the World Cup final, people appreciated the way we played in the tournament. And, they enjoyed watching us play even though the outcome was not what we expected." - Rohit said in the Great India Kapil Sharma show.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma will be in action later today when the Mumbai Indians welcome Rishabh Pant's Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede stadium at 3:30 PM for their 4th IPL 2024 match.
