Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper Shubman Gill is on the verge of making history during the match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Shubman Gill has the opportunity to equal David Warner's batting record in the upcoming match in the IPL 2024.
The Gujarat Titans will take on the Rajasthan Royals in their next match at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Wednesday, April 10. The Shubman Gill-led side is coming off two consecutive losses, while Sanju Samson's team remains the only unbeaten team in the event so far.
Shubman Gill Needs 27 Runs to Equal David Warner's Record
Shubman Gill debuted in the IPL with the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2018. He showcased a promising performance by scoring 1417 runs in 58 matches at an average of 31.49 and a strike rate of 123. However, Kolkata did not retain him ahead of the IPL 2022 auction, leading him to join GT in 2022.
The Punjab-born cricketer joined the Gujarat Titans ahead of the 2022 season. The right-handed batter has scored 1556 runs at an average of 47.15 and a strike rate of 147.77 during his stint with the Ahmedabad-based franchise. Gill won the Orange Cap in the 2023 season of the tournament.
The 24-year-old batter has amassed 2973 runs in 93 innings across 96 matches played so far. If the opening batter manages to score at least 27 runs against the table-toppers, he will equal the legendary David Warner’s record, who also crossed the 3000-run mark in the IPL in his 94th innings.
Former West Indies captain Chris Gayle holds the record for the fastest 3000 runs in the history of the tournament, achieving it in just 75 innings. Indian wicketkeeper batter KL Rahul secured the second position on this prestigious list, reaching 3000 runs in 80 innings in the IPL.

3 | David Warner (DC, SRH) | 94 |
4 | Suresh Raina (CSK, GL) | 103 |

Shubman Gill Will Skipper India One Day - Michael Vaughan
Former England captain Michael Vaughan has picked Shubman Gill as his choice for the future captaincy of the Indian national cricket team, favoring him over established players like Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, and Sanju Samson.
"Have to say Shubman Gill is going to be a very very good captain .. No doubt he will skipper India one day," wrote Vaughan on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Shubman Gill stands as the leading run scorer for the GT franchise. In the current season, the opening batter has scored 183 runs in five matches at a strike rate of 147.58, positioning him as the second-leading run scorer for the Ahmedabad-based side, just behind Sai Sudharsan (191).
The Titans have had a disappointing performance so far, securing victories in two out of five matches. The team, currently positioned seventh in the standings, has secured four points with a net run rate (NRR) of -0.797.
