Sunil Gavaskar wants MS Dhoni to do this in every game of IPL 2024

Cricketer-turned-commentator Sunil Gavaskar has opened up about his expectations from MS Dhoni in IPL 2024. The batting great wants MS Dhoni to smash a six in every game of IPL 2024.  MS Dhoni will lead Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2024.

The wicketkeeper-batter led the team to the trophy in the previous edition. CSK won the title after crushing the Gujarat Titans in the final and became the joint-most successful team with 5 trophies. They equaled the Mumbai Indians’ record.

MS Dhoni was quite impressive with the bat last season. Facing a handful of deliveries in the lower order across 12 games, Dhoni mustered 104 runs at a strike rate of 182+. He shattered 10 sixes and was unbeaten in 8 games out of 12.

Sunil Gavaskar expects MS Dhoni to smash six in every game in IPL 2024

Former India batter Sunil Gavaskar and former India pacer Irfan Pathan had a conversation about Chennai Super Kings on Star Sports. During the chat, Gavaskar said he expects MS Dhoni to smash a six in every game of IPL 2024.

“A six in every game. A six, not six runs, that is what I am expecting. Every time he comes into bat, 14 innings, 14 sixes, it will be money’s worth for me. It’s naturally better if it’s more than that,” the 74-year-old said.

Responding to him, Irfan Pathan mentioned that he met MS Dhoni recently and he looked quite fit ahead post his knee surgery.

“I met MS Dhoni for two hours. We spoke and he was mostly standing for those two hours. So the pain that is generally there after surgery was not evident. He is looking slim. It’s going to be an extremely special season. My heartfelt hope would be that he bats slightly up the order,” the cricketer-turned-commentator said.

Fielding will be a worry for CSK in IPL 2024, feels Irfan Pathan

Irfan Pathan also feels fielding can be a matter of worry for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2024 with a lot of veteran players in their squad.

“The only thing they will have a little worry about is in terms of fielding. They need to be wary of it because sometimes they go for experience and that’s why the fresh legs aren’t there. Fielding actually lets them down sometimes,” the former left-arm pacer added.

CSK picked Shardul Thakur in the IPL 2024 Auction

There were doubts whether MS Dhoni would lead CSK in one more IPL season as he faced a knee injury in the last season. However, after the surgery and rehabilitation, the CSK stalwart is all set to lead the side one more time.

During the last three seasons, CSK has become champions twice in 2021 and 2023. They will eye their 6th IPL title in IPL 2024. During the IPL 2024 Auction in December, CSK bought powerful Kiwi batters like Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell into their squad.

Notably, the men-in-yellow also bought their former player Shardul Thakur during the auction. Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar led a fabulous pace attack for CSK in IPL 2021 and helped the team to grab the trophy.
