Former Indian batter and CSK player Ambati Rayudu has shared a piece of advice for KL Rahul to earn a spot in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Ambati Rayudu feels KL Rahul should switch his batting order if he wants to play for Team India in the shortest format.

KL Rahul faces strict competition for a spot in the T20 World Cup 2024, which is set to take place in June this year.

The right-handed batter has been out of India's T20 setup since the T20 World Cup 2022 in November 2022, where India faced a semi-final exit. Rahul has been slammed for his slow strike rate in the shortest format.

Moreover, Rahul shares the profile of an opener and wicketkeeper in T20Is and has a lot of competition for the same. Players like Ishan Kishan, Rishabh Pant, and Jitesh Sharma are among strong contenders for wicketkeepers.

Similarly, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and Yashasvi Jaiswal are a few top names for the opening slot. Even Rururaj Gaikwad is a powerful option for the opening slot.

KL Rahul should bat slightly lower- Ambati Rayudu

During a conversation on Star Sports, former India middle-order batter Ambati Rayudu shared useful advice for KL Rahul to grab a World Cup spot. Rayudu feels the LSG skipper should move down the order at No. 4 while batting as there are too many openers fighting for the top spot.

"He (KL Rahul) still has to get back into form. I feel he should be batting slightly maybe number 3 or 4 if he has to really get into the India side and stay in the reckoning for the T20 World Cup squad because there are already too many openers who are contending for the spot," the former right-handed batter said while replying to a query by Hindustan Times.

"Ideally, he should be batting at number 4 and it will be good for LSG as well if he can do that, come in the middle overs and really play till the end that's what the Indian team needs as well," Rayudu further added.

KL Rahul has a 128+ strike rate as the LSG opener

Meanwhile, KL Rahul has donned the role of opener and wicketkeeper for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2024. Although he has done a wonderful job as skipper leading LSG to 3 wins across the first four games, he has struggled as a batter.

The LSG opener slammed a half-century in one match in a losing cause. He has mustered 126 runs across 4 games at a strike rate of 128+. Moreover, he has also failed to provide quick starts to the team as an opener.

ICC T20 World Cup 2024 will be played after IPL 2024. The tournament commences on June 1 in the West Indies and the USA. Indian players with spectacular shows in the ongoing IPL 2024 are highly expected to be picked for the World Cup squad, except for a few big names who are almost confirmed.
