Rajasthan Royals Head Coach Kumar Sangakkara has termed Jos Butter as the best opener in the world in white-ball formats. His words arrived after Jos Buttler shattered a century in the RR vs RCB game of IPL 2024 on Saturday. Notably, Virat Kohli also shattered a century in the match.

Jos Buttler was at his fine best during the match. After his opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal got out for a duck, Buttler smacked an unbeaten 100 runs off 58 balls. The right-handed batter helped the team to reach the 184-run target in the final over.

Notably, RR skipper Sanju Samson also played a stunning knock of 69 runs. Earlier, Virat Kohli led the RCB's scoreboard from the front, smacking a knock of unbeaten 113 off 72 balls. With an opening partnership of 125 with Faf du Plessis, Kohli shattered 12 fours and 4 sixes to set the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on fire.

However, his brilliant innings went in vain as Sanju Samson & Co. handed RCB another defeat in IPL 2024. Notably, RCB bowlers failed to demolish the Samson-Buttler duo, who etched a 148-run partnership for the 2nd wicket to set the platform for victory.

Jos Buttler is the best opener in the world- Kumar Sangakkara

During the post-match presentation, RR Head Coach heaped praises on Jos Buttler and referred to him as the best opener in white-ball format.

“Jos [Buttler] is the best white-ball opener in the world, and all he needed to do was sit back and ignore some of the noise”, the former Sri Lanka captain said.

Sangakkara also feels it was good to win the toss as batting second helped them overpower the opponents with the dew factor.

“I did feel we could have maximized 10 or 15 more towards the end. It was a good toss to win, you did see that it played much nicer with the dew,” Sangakkara said.

“We tried, but it was quite tricky to hit. With the spinners, a lot of balls were hitting the bottom of the bat. I think the pitch definitely got better. That’s what dew does, that’s the nature of the wicket. I thought it was a good toss for them to win,” the former wicketkeeper-batsman further said.

Just keep digging in and working hard: Jos Buttler after a ton

Jos Buttler struggled with the bat in the last three games of IPL 2024. However, he made a strong comeback in the RR vs RCB game. Speaking during the post-match press conference, Buttler said he just focused on working hard and digging in after initial struggles.

“However long you’ve played the game, you still have those anxieties and stresses. Sometimes you just have to tell yourself it’ll be okay. Just keep digging in, and working hard, at some point we will be okay. I actually did feel really good in the last game, even though I only scored 13 or something,” the England captain said.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals defeated RCB to win their fourth consecutive game in IPL 2024. With 4 wins in 4 games, the Sanju Samson & Boys grab the top spot in the IPL 2024 points table. On the other hand, RCB lost their third straight game in the tournament. They have won just 1 game out of 5.
