Cricketer-turned-commentator Shane Watson has revealed RCB’s biggest mistake in IPL. Shane Watson feels that Royal Challengers Bangaluru (RCB) should have not released Yuzvendra Cahahal from their squad. His words came after Yuzvendra Chahal bowled a fabulous spell in the Mumbai Indians vs Rajasthan Royals match of IPL 2024 on Monday, April 1.
The Rajasthan Royals spinner hunted 3 wickets for 11 runs during his 4-over spell. He picked two crucial wickets for Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma. Notably, the MI duo rescued the team from an initial batting collapse.
As MI reached 20-4 at the start, Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya added a 50-plus partnership. It looked like they would revive the team from the initial debacle. However, Yuzvendra Chahal made them his victims and helped Rajasthan Royals restrict MI to a low total of just 125-9.

Rajasthan Royals are so fortunate to have Yuzvendra Chahal: Shane Watson
Former Australia opener Shane Watson was full of praises for Yuzvendra Chahal after his stunning 3-wicket haul in MI vs RR clash in IPL 2024 match 14. The former Aussie all-rounder feels Rajasthan Royals are fortunate to have a bowler like Chahal.
“Yuzvendra Chahal has done it for a long period of time in the IPL in international cricket as well. Chahal does not go for many runs and he gets the best batters out. He continues to do it game after game, year after year and Rajasthan Royals are so fortunate to have him,” Shane Watson said.
RCB, why the hell did you let him go: Shane Watson
Shane Watson, who also played for Chennai Super Kings in IPL, said that Hardik Pandya’s wicket was a crucial moment in the MI vs RR clash of IPL 2024. The 42-year-old also feels RCB should not have dropped Yuzvendra Chahal.
“Today he picked the big wicket of Hardik Pandya which was in the crucial moment of the game. Yuzi Chahal came out on top once again. I keep saying this – RCB, why the hell did you let him go,” he further added.
Yuzvendra Chahal roars on the field with an RR jersey in IPL 2024, however, there was a time when he was known as a poster boy of Royal Challengers Bangalore. The right-arm spinner was part of RCB from IPL 2014 to IPL 2021. However, RCB did not retain him in the squad ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction.
Later, RCB also failed to grab into their squad during the IPL 2022 auction. Notably, Yuzvendra Chahal grabbed a hat-trick and also clinched the purple cap with 27 wickets in IPL 2022. Interestingly, Chahal was also part of Mumbai Indians from IPL 2011 to 2013 seasons.
RR rattles MI by 6 wickets
Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals crushed Mumbai Indians by 6 wickets in match 14 of IPL 2024. With Trent Boult’s mayhem of 3 wickets in the powerplay, Mumbai Indians lost 4 wickets for 20 runs on the board at the start. Later, the home team could only reach 125-9 in 20 overs.
During the chase, Rajasthan Royals lost openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (10) and Jos Buttler (13) cheaply. Even one-down Sanju Samson could only add 12 runs. However, Riyan Parag drove the team to victory with his unbeaten 54 off 39 in just 15.3 overs. MI has faced 3 defeats in a row in IPL 2024 and takes the last spot in the points table.
