Rohit Sharma, a seasoned opener for the Mumbai Indians, is renowned for his exceptional pull shot, often regarded as the finest in cricket. This signature stroke has become synonymous with the batter's batting prowess, owing to its frequent usage and flawless execution.
During MI's net session before their match against the Delhi Capitals, Rohit played a classic pull shot. A video shared by the Mumbai Indians on X captured the moment, showing Rohit hitting a perfect six, eliciting cheers from teammates with shouts of "Shot, Rohit bhai!"
Suryakumar Yadav and fast bowling coach Lasith Malinga were in the background, watching in awe as Rohit Sharma's shot flew into the stands. They were following the trajectory of the ball in the practice session.
Suryakumar Yadav has been sidelined since December 2023 due to an ankle injury he sustained during the final T20I against South Africa. Unfortunately, a sports hernia diagnosis further delayed his recovery, necessitating additional surgery. He is poised to make his comeback in the IPL 2024.
The 33-year-old batter recently received clearance from the National Cricket Academy to rejoin the franchise. He was seen training with the team ahead of his comeback. His return is expected to bolster the team, especially since they currently occupy the bottom position in the points table.
Rohit Sharma May Take The Orange Cap - S Sreesanth
Speaking to TOI about the Rohit-Hardik dynamic, S Sreesanth drew a comparison with Sachin Tendulkar playing under MS Dhoni. He emphasized Rohit's potential to excel without the burden of captaincy, suggesting it could enhance his batting performance.
"We have seen the god of cricket, the great Sachin Tendulkar play under Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni). We won the World Cup too. A lot of stories are being told about Rohit Sharma playing under new captain Hardik Pandya but Rohit would love to play freely," said Sreesanth.
"As far as I know Rohit, he would look to bat freely, without any captaincy burden, and may take the Orange Cap too. He is going to have a great season. He has led Mumbai Indians from the front but I am sure Rohit is going to lead Mumbai Indians from the back," he added.
Rohit, who led the Mumbai team from 2013 to 2023, was replaced by Hardik Pandya as captain. Hardik was traded from the Gujarat Titans (GT) during the off-season. However, the decision has led to criticism from MI fans, evident in the crowd's reaction during the team's matches.
Rohit Sharma will be next seen in action when the Mumbai Indians face the Delhi Capitals (DC) in their next match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, April 7.
