From the last few years, MS Dhoni has been constantly proving that age is just a number and he did it once again on Tuesday (March 26) when Chennai Super Kings locked horns against Gujarat Titans at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in the seventh match of the ongoing IPL 2024.
The former India skipper took a fine diving catch to dismiss Vijay Shankar and put CSK in the driver’s seat. On the third ball of the eighth over, Daryl Mitchell bowled a full-length delivery around the off stump. Vijay Shankar decided to go for a drive with almost no foot movement and paid the price for it.
The GT allrounder failed to make good contact with the ball and ended up top-edging the ball behind the stumps. At first, it looked like the ball would fly past MS Dhoni. However, the former CSK skipper had other ideas. The 42-year-old made a stunning dive towards his right and caught the ball with both hands while being airborne. The whole stadium erupted in joy after the catch as MS Dhoni was mobbed by his smiling teammates.

MS Dhoni is yet to bat in IPL 2024 but his latest exploit behind the stumps is enough to bring a smile to his fans’ faces. The legendary wicketkeeper-batsman sprung a huge surprise just before the start of the ongoing competition by stepping down as the captain of the team. The World Cup-winning captain decided to hand over the reins of the team to opening batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad.
This is the second time MS Dhoni has stepped down as CSK captain. He did the same in 2022 as well and Ravindra Jadeja had taken charge of the team on that occasion. However, the move did not yield the desired result on that occasion as Jadeja stood down as the captain after just eight games and MS Dhoni had to take charge of the team again.
Dhoni and CSK will be hoping that the move works out this time and Gaikwad will lead the franchise to a good position in his maiden season as a captain.
