Delhi Capitals (DC) opener David Warner displayed a daring stroke during the second match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. David Warner executed an audacious scoop against Punjab Kings (PBKS) pacer Kagiso Rabada, sending the ball over the ropes.
Punjab’s captain won the toss and elected to bowl first at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur on Saturday, March 23rd. However, the Delhi Capitals’ openers got off to a flying start against the Punjab fast bowlers.
David Warner and Mitchell Marsh added 39 runs before Arshdeep Singh provided a breakthrough. Arshdeep dismissed Marsh, who scored 20 runs off 12 balls, including two fours and as many sixes. Rahul Chahar, stationed at covers, completed the simple catch.

The seasoned Australian opener couldn’t capitalize on his initial momentum. Warner was dismissed for 29 runs off 21 balls, featuring three boundaries and two sixes. Harshal Patel clinched his first wicket of the ongoing match, limiting DC to 74/2 after eight overs.
Rishabh Pant Fails To Make Impact In His Comeback Game
The visiting team went on to lose three more wickets in quick succession. Shai Hope, making his IPL debut for the Capitals, accumulated 33 runs off 25 balls, including two boundaries and as many sixes. Kagiso Rabada claimed his first wicket by dismissing Hope.
Rishabh Pant struggled to score in his comeback match, managing 18 runs off 13 deliveries. Harshal Patel took the wicket of the DC captain after dropping his catch. The DC team faced trouble as they lost five wickets for just 111 runs on the board in 13.2 overs.

David Warner Led Delhi Capitals In Previous IPL Season
It is worth mentioning that the 37-year-old took over the captaincy for the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2023 after regular skipper Rishabh Pant suffered injuries in a car accident in December 2022. Pant was ruled out of the previous season of the tournament due to injuries.
The left handed batter emerged as the team’s top scorer, amassing 526 runs in 14 innings at an average of 36.85, and a striking rate of 131.63, including six half-centuries. Despite Warner’s commendable individual performance, the Delhi Capitals faced a lackluster season, ending second to last in the points table with only five victories out of 14 matches.
