It did not take Rachin Ravindra and Mustafizur Rahman long to make an impact for Chennai Super Kings in the ongoing first game of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024). The reigning champions opened their campaign in IPL 2024 with the game against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
The home side handed debut caps to both Mustafizur Rahman and Rachin Ravindra for the match and it took the duo less than five overs to make their presence felt. RCB captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and opted to bat first.
The former South Africa skipper came out all guns blazing and raced away to 31 runs off just 20 balls at the end of the fourth over. He hit Deepak Chahar for a four in the first over before hitting two more off Tushar Deshpande’s bowling in the second over. In the third over, he took Chahar to the cleaners and hit him for four boundaries.
With Du Plessis looking in great touch, CSK needed something special to get rid of him and Rachin Ravindra provided that moment of brilliance for his side. Ruturaj Gaikwad handed the ball to Mustafizur Rahman to deliver the fifth over and it took him only three balls to make an impact.
Du Plessis hit him for a four on the second ball of the over but Mustafizur had the last laugh as he dismissed the RCB skipper on the very following delivery thanks to a brilliant diving catch from Rachin Ravindra. It was a slower delivery outside the off stump and du Plessis had to reach out for the ball. He ended up hitting the ball with the toe-end of the bat and the ball ballooned towards the deep backward point where Rachin Ravindra came charging in before taking a brilliant catch while diving forward.
