The Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Rishabh Pant was part of a dramatic dismissal in the 26th match of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) against the KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Friday, April 12.

Rishabh Pant has been doing a fine job with the bat in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He started off slow in his comeback to competitive cricket as he scored just 18 and 28 runs in the first two games.

However, he bettered his performance by smashing back-to-back half-centuries in the match against the Chennai Super Kings and the Kolkata Knight Riders. Although he bagged a failure in the match against the Mumbai Indians, Pant made sure that he bounced back strong and steered his side to a win by playing a good knock against the Lucknow Super Giants.

Rishabh Pant showcased a terrific batting performance during the run-chase and he was involved in a 77-run partnership with Jake Fraser-McGurk that completely shifted the game in the favour of Delhi Capitals.

The wicketkeeper-batsman might consider himself unlucky as he wasn't unbeaten till the end and fell short of his half-century as well. Pant scored 41 runs off 24 balls, with 4 fours and 2 sixes, before being dismissed by the star leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi on the third ball of the 16th over.

Rishabh Pant got stumped but his dismissal was not very normal. Ravi Bishnoi bowled a full delivery and Pant danced down the track to hit it for a boundary. However, he lost the shape and failed to make any connection with the ball. DC captain's bat also slipped out of his hand in the process and the bat went on to hit the LSG gloveman KL Rahul, who didn't get distracted by it and inflicted an easy stumping to send the batter packing.

Rishabh Pant becomes the fastest Indian to hit 3000 runs in the history of the Indian Premier League

With his knock against the Lucknow Super Giants, Rishabh Pant also created history as he became the fastest Indian in terms of balls faced to score 3000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He took just 2028 balls to reach the feat and broke the record of Yusuf Pathan. In terms of innings, he is the joint third fastest to the milestone along with Suresh Raina.

Fewest balls to reach 3000 IPL Runs (Indians):

2028 - Rishabh Pant*

2082 - Yusuf Pathan

2130 - Suryakumar Yadav

2135 - Suresh Raina

2152 - MS Dhoni

Fewest innings to 3000 IPL runs (Indians):

80 - KL Rahul

94 - Shubman Gill

103 - Rishabh Pant*

103 - Suresh Raina

104 - Ajinkya Rahane

After the match, the former India National Cricket Team all-rounder Irfan Pathan took to his official X handle to shower praise on Rishabh Pant for delivering consistent performances for Delhi Capitals. He stated:

"RishaPant’st’s consistency since his come back has been heartwarming. Delhi’s two spinners gave 46 runs in 8 whereas Lucknow’s lone spinner gave nearly as many runs in 3 overs. Big difference in the game. #DCvsLSG."
