MS Dhoni, known for his influence both on and off the field, continues to captivate cricket enthusiasts worldwide. Even as he nears the end of his career, MS Dhoni’s enduring charm and popularity remain evident in the 13th match of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL).

MS Dhoni thrilled fans with a stellar knock, showcasing vintage batting against the Delhi Capitals (DC) in Visakhapatnam on Sunday, March 31. The former CSK skipper scored an unbeaten 37 runs off 16 deliveries, with the help of four boundaries and three maximums.

However, the Chennai-based franchise encountered their first setback of the season, falling short by 20 runs in their recent match. The 42-year-old batter engaged in a discussion with former India teammate Ishant Sharma after the conclusion of the match.

While conversing with DC’s Ishant Sharma, a fan in Visakhapatnam requested MS Dhoni to remove his helmet. The wicketkeeper-batter fulfilled the fan’s request and took off his helmet. The heartwarming moment quickly went viral across social media platforms.

Khaleel Ahmed Shines With Ball For Delhi Capitals

Rishabh Pant elected to bat first after winning the toss. Opening batters David Warner and Prithvi Shaw provided a strong start, adding 62 runs in the powerplay. The partnership between the two batters yielded 93 runs before Warner was dismissed for 43 runs.

Rishabh Pant contributed 51 runs to the Delhi Capitals’ total of 191 runs. It was Pant’s half-century in the ongoing prestigious tournament. Pacer Matheesha Pathirana emerged as the most successful bowler for the Chennai team, claiming three wickets for 31 runs.

In their pursuit of the 192-run target, the Super Kings faced a dismal start, with openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra departing early. Despite efforts from Ajinkya Rahane, Daryl Mitchell, and MS Dhoni, CSK faltered against the disciplined bowling of DC.

Khaleel Ahmed claimed two wickets for 21 runs in four overs, including a maiden. Mukesh Kumar secured three wickets for 22 runs in his three overs. Additionally, Axar Patel managed to take one scalp for the Delhi Capitals.

Don’t Think MS Dhoni Will Come Up The Order – Michael Clarke

Speaking to Star Sports after the game, former Australian captain Michael Clarke stated that MS Dhoni shouldn’t be moved up in the batting order. Clarke highlighted Dhoni’s expertise in the finishing role, suggesting that he’s the best finisher he’s ever seen.

“I don’t think he’ll come up the order. I think if there’s a game on the line and he needs to go up the order because it’s what’s best for the team, I’m sure he will. But I think just because he’s hitting the ball so well, I don’t think you’ll see him batting in the top five or top six. I think he’s a genius at the dance. He’s probably the best finisher I’ve ever seen. So, I think they’ll continue to utilize him in that role,” Clarke said.

The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led team will lock horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their next match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Friday, April 5.
