The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen inflicted MS Dhoni-like stumping to get rid of the Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shikhar Dhawan in the 23rd match of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, Chandigarh on Tuesday, April 9.

During the run-chase, the PBKS skipper Shikhar Dhawan tried to play an attacking brand of cricket but he just couldn't get going. He tried to smash the bowlers but wasn't able to make good connections with the deliveries and eventually got out without contributing many runs.

Dhawan scored poor 14 runs off 16 balls, with 2 boundaries, and he was cleaned up by Bhuvneshwar Kumar on the 4th ball of the 5th over. The SRH veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled a length ball in the channel just outside off-stump. Dhawan wanted to register a boundary off the delivery and he walked down the track to hit it. However, the ball had a slight away movement and Dhawan failed to connect with it.

The PBKS skipper quickly turned back to put his bat inside the crease but the SRH wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen was just too quick with his glovework as he had already removed the bails before Dhawan could put his bat inside the line. After the dismissal of Shikhar Dhawan, PBKS were in all sorts of trouble at 20/3.

Watch the Heinrich Klaasen masterclass:

This was the eighth time in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) that Shikhar Dhawan was stumped. He has equaled the record of Suresh Raina & Robin Uthappa. Also, this was just the 9th time in the Indian Premier League (IPL) that a batter was stumped against a pacer.

Earlier, Punjab Kings (PBKS) bowlers shined with the ball and restricted Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to 182/9. Arshdeep Singh was the hero of PBKS in the innings as he picked up 4 wickets while Nitish Kumar Reddy shined for SRH with his brilliant 64-run knock.

During the mid-innings break, Arshdeep Singh said that he just stuck to his plans and was delighted to deliver for the team. He also talked about the bowling of his team in the last 5 overs when they gave away a lot of runs. Arshdeep Singh said:

"To start with, there was some movement in the wicket and it was a little sticky. Afterwards, a little dew came in and the wicket settled. I was very happy till the third over but it was a really good day. Just trying to stick to my plans and deliver to the team."

"(Bowling in the last 5 overs) It's because of the ground dimensions, hitting boundaries straighter is relatively easier than hitting it square. We wanted to take advantage of the bigger square boundary. Even in the first game that we played here, we used a lot of slower bouncers and this game wanted to bowl wide yorkers."
