While the Indian Premier League (IPL) is yet to begin, Rohit Sharma and his India teammates have already started the banter. The highly-anticipated IPL 2024 is scheduled to be played from March 22.

Reigning champions Chennai Super Kings will lock horns against Royal Challengers Bangalore in a mouth-watering tournament opener in Chennai. The full schedule of IPL 2024 is yet to be announced by the BCCI. As of now, the cricket board has announced the schedule of the first 21 matches between March 22 and April 7. The full schedule is expected once the dates for the general elections are out.

And while there is still more than a week remaining before IPL 2024 starts, Rohit Sharma decided to pull the legs of his India teammates.

On Friday (March 15), he posted a commercial video on his Instagram account in which he and other players such as Rishabh Pant, Ravichandran Ashwin, Hardik Pandya, and others could be seen giving a clear message that friendships and brotherhood between the India teammates will take the back seat during the IPL. Posting the clip, Rohit Sharma wrote: “Tu rules banate ja Rishu @rishabpant, points table par raaj toh hum hi karenge 👑 @suniel.shetty aur maine apni Team chunn li, ab teri baari 🫵”

A new beginning for Rohit Sharma:

IPL 2024 will mark a new beginning for Rohit Sharma. The veteran batsman will be playing an IPL season without being the captain for the first time since 2013. He led Mumbai Indians from 2013 to 2023 before being replaced by Hardik Pandya.

With no pressure of captaincy, Rohit Sharma will be eyeing a productive outing in the IPL. The India captain has not managed to do well with the bat in recent IPL seasons. He has not touched the 400-run mark in the IPL since 2019 and will be looking to score big this season.

A good form in IPL will also help him in the T20 World Cup which will be played just after the conclusion of the tournament. BCCI secretary Jay Shah has already confirmed that Rohit will be leading the team in the T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled to be played from June 1 to 29. India are scheduled to open their campaign on June 5 against Ireland.
