Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) all-rounder Liam Livingstone showcased brute force during the recent clash against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Liam Livingstone’s powerful shot against Naveen ul Haq nearly shattered the Spidercam in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
The Shikhar Dhawan-led side suffered a 21-run defeat to the Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Saturday, March 30. The Mohali-based franchise failed to chase down a target of 200 in their third match of the ongoing marquee event.
Watch – Liam Livingstone’s Powerful Hit Breaks Spidercam
The incident occurred during the final over of the Punjab Kings’ batting in the recent match. With PBKS needing 41 runs to win from six deliveries, Livingstone dispatched Naveen-ul-Haq’s delivery towards midwicket region, but it ended up being a dead ball.
The ball seemed to be heading towards the stands, but it unexpectedly hit the spidercam. This powerful hit by Livingstone caused the camera to break, and the umpire declared it a dead ball. Livingstone’s frustration was evident as events did not turn out in his favor.

In the subsequent delivery, Naveen bowled a wide. Livingstone responded by smashing a six over deep square leg, followed by a boundary over extra cover and another six over the bowler’s head. However, the final three balls only yielded two runs for the PBKS team.
Earlier, LSG skipper Nicholas Pooran opted to bat first. KL Rahul, their regular captain, was designated as an Impact Player. This decision aimed to keep Rahul fresh, especially since he was returning from a quadriceps injury and participating in his first tournament.
Despite KL Rahul’s early dismissal for 15 off 9 balls, Quinton de Kock’s impressive half-century anchored the innings. Subsequent explosive contributions from Krunal Pandya (43* off 22) and Nicholas Pooran (42 off 21) propelled the team to a substantial total of 199/8.
Pity That Liam Livingstone Got Injured – Shikhar Dhawan
Speaking at the post-match presentations, PBKS captain Shikhar Dhawan expressed that Liam Livingstone’s injury significantly impacted the visitors’ chase, as he was their designated number four batter.
“They played well, pity that Livi (Livingstone) got injured, that hurt us, he would have come at 4. We started off well, but Mayank bowled well with his pace. It was nice facing him, I was surprised at his pace, but I wanted to use his pace against him, but he bowled the bouncers and the yorkers well.”
“I was quite mindful, asked the batters to use the short side and use his pace, but he bowled into his body (on Bairstow’s dismissal) and got him OUT, I said the same to Jitesh as well. But Mohsin bowled really well, he kept a good length and suffocated us. We will have to analyze these defeats, the drop catch did cost us some momentum. That’s something we’ll have to improve going forward,” Dhawan said.
