The newly-appointed captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Pat Cummins, took an absolutely wonderful catch to dismiss the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Shreyas Iyer in the third match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday, March 23.
Shreyas Iyer has been in the news for all the wrong reasons in recent times. He was recently dropped from the BCCI central contracts list due to indiscipline. He was also left out of India’s Test squad after registering a string of low scores for an extended period of time.
Iyer was expected to set the stage on his return to the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024. However, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter disappointed the fans as well as his team with his poor performance with the bat against Pat Cummins & Co.
Shreyas Iyer was forced to walk out to bat early after the failure of the top-order batters. He had a huge responsibility on his shoulders to take his team to a respectable total, but he wasn’t successful in doing that and walked back to the hut for a 2-ball duck.
On the 5th ball of the 4th over, the pacer T Natarajan bowled a length delivery to Shreyas Iyer. The KKR skipper attempted a drive but didn’t make the best of the connections with the bat. It looked like the ball would go over the mid-off fielder, but that wasn’t the case as Pat Cummins timed his jump to perfection to take an exceptional catch.
The SRH skipper was delighted after dismissing the key batter of the opposition team while the KKR mentor Gautam Gambhir looked upset after the dismissal of the skipper of his team.

Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss and opted to field first in the match. Speaking at the toss, the SRH captain Pat Cummins said that the surface was good at the Eden Gardens and revealed that the confidence is pretty high in the group.
“We gonna have a bowl, wicket looks pretty good. Jansen, Klaasen and Markram are the other three. This is my first game for Sunrisers, it’s been awesome in the camp to the lead-up and the confidence is really high in the group,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Kolkata Knight Riders captain Shreyas Iyer talked about the recovery from his back injury and said that he was feeling good. He also showered praise on the Kolkata Knight Riders spinners for performing brilliantly in the last few seasons.
“Feel fantastic (talking about his recovery from back injury). I have been training well and played a few games as well. The spinners have been bowling tremendously over the past few seasons and all of them are lethal in their own way. I see a bit of dryness on this wicket and hopefully it will help them. Salt, Narine, Russell and Starc are playing today.”
