Rishabh Pant, on Wednesday (April 3), scored his second consecutive fifty in the ongoing IPL 2024 during the game between Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders in Vishakhapatnam.
DC’s chances of winning the game looked all but done after KKR finished their innings on a mammoth total of 272/7 in 20 overs. In reply, the Rishabh Pant-led side made a disastrous start with the bat. They lost four wickets inside the powerplay to find themselves reeling at 33 for 4 in the fifth over.
Vaibhav Arora dismissed Prithvi Shaw and Abishek Porel while Mitchell Starc sent back David Warner and Mitchell Marsh to all but seal DC’s fate. At that stage, it looked like DC would be bowled out for a paltry total. However, their captain Rishabh Pant scored a fine fifty to help them post a respectable total.
The wicketkeeper-batsman started in the top gear right from the word go as he raced away to 20 runs in just six balls. He slowed down a bit before hitting Venkatesh Iyer for 28 runs in the 12th over of the innings. He hit the KKR allrounder for two sixes and four fours in the over and also completed his fifty off just 23 balls in the same over.
After scoring 28 runs in the 12th over, Rishabh Pant was dismissed in the very following over by Varun Chakravarthy. He departed after scoring 55 runs off 25 balls. It is his second consecutive fifty in the ongoing IPL. After scoring 18 and 28 in the first two games, he played a match-winning knock of 51 against Chennai Super Kings last week.
Talking about the game, DC were on 166 for 9 at the time of writing this report. Earlier in the game, whirlwind knocks from Sunil Narine and Angkrish Raghuvanshi propelled KKR to a mammoth 272/7. While Narine hit 85 off just 39 balls, Raghuvanshi scored 54 off 27 balls. Andre Russell (41 off 19) and Rinku Singh (26 off 8) helped KKR finish the innings on a strong note.
