Anrich Nortje's campaign in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) went from bad to worse on Sunday (April 7) as he endured another poor outing with the ball in the ongoing game between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
The South Africa star came to India after a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to a back issue. He was sidelined in September last year and finally returned to action last month. The right-arm pacer played three games in Cricket South Africa's local T20 competition before joining Delhi Capitals for the ongoing IPL 2024.
And he has struggled to deliver as per his reputation in the tournament so far. In his first game of the season, Anrich Nortje conceded 48 runs against Rajasthan Royals. In the following game against Chennai Super Kings, he gave away 43 runs before conceding 59 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders.
Anrich Nortje concedes 32 runs in an over:
On Sunday (April 7), Anrich Nortje failed to do well with the ball once again as Mumbai Indians batters took him to the cleaners. He conceded a staggering 65 runs in his four overs including 32 runs in the final over of the innings.
The right-arm pacer started the match on a good note. In his first over, he conceded only four runs and picked up the prized scalp of Suryakumar Yadav. In his second over, the Proteas star gave away 13 runs. DC captain Rishabh Pant then handed the ball to him in the death overs.
Anrich Nortje bowled the 18th over and gave away 16 runs but picked up the wicket of Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya. And in the final over of the innings, Romario Shepherd took him to the absolute cleaners. Playing his first game of the season, the West Indies allrounder hit each ball of the 20th over for a boundary to collect 32 runs from the over.
Shepherd started with a four before hitting the next three deliveries for three sixes. The fifth ball went for a four before Shepherd hit another six to end the over in style.
