MS Dhoni's wife Sakshi revealed why her husband took retirement from Test cricket early. She said that it was she who insisted he should step away so that the keeper-batter could spend more time with his family.
MS Dhoni arguably was one of the best players to have played cricket for India. The keeper-batter ended his career as the greatest captain for the Indian team as he guided the team to all the ICC tournaments affiliated with the white-ball, winning the T20 World Cup 2007, Cricket World Cup 2011, and Champions Trophy 2013.
Not only in white-ball cricket but MS Dhoni also had a decent amount of success in Test cricket as well. The keeper-batter took India to No.1 in the Test rankings. Despite having a successful time as Test captain and batter, he surprised many in 2014.
During the Test series against Australia in 2014, MS Dhoni called retirement from the Test on 30th December. It forced Virat Kohli to take the charge of the team midway. It left many shocked because no one expected the keeper-batter to take that decision immediately.
However, a decade later now, it has been revealed why MS Dhoni called his retirement early in his career. Sakshi Dhoni in a video on social media revealed that she told the keeper-batter to take the decision so that he can spend time with his family.
In a video that has gone viral on the internet, Sakshi Dhoni stated: "If you need a child, you need to step down from one of the formats."
Here's the video:

Three months after his Test retirement, MS Dhoni was blessed with his daughter Ziva. But he made sure that he continued giving his best for the Indian Cricket Team in the white-ball formats. He captained India in the 2015 World Cup in Australia and didn't go home when his child was born.
Then in 2017, MS Dhoni relinquished his captaincy and handed over the baton to Virat Kohli in the white-ball format as well. The keeper-batter then called time on his career in 2020. His last game in Indian colors was the semi-final of the 2019 World Cup against New Zealand.
MS Dhoni to retire from cricket after IPL 2024
After calling time on his international career, MS Dhoni continued playing in the IPL. The ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 is potentially the last season for him in the league. The keeper-batter ahead of the season gave away the Chennai Super Kings captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad.
The ongoing IPL 2024 has been vintage MS Dhoni. The keeper-batter has been batting down the order in the season. He came to bat for the first time in IPL 2024 in a game against Delhi Capitals. He entertained the crowd big time with his power-hitting.
MS Dhoni took Anrich Nortje to the cleaners and smashed him for 20 runs in the over. The keeper-batter ended with an inning of 37 runs in just 16 balls and made everyone go gaga. He got an opportunity to bat in the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad but he managed just 1 and followed it up with another 1-run knock against KKR.
